Good idea to ditch ADP payroll to self processing

We have 2 people of the household on w-2 payroll. ADP usually charges for $1500 per year for all fees etc. If I were to take over the payroll process, is it worth it? its a fixed payroll with fixed hours bi-weekly. ($400 per 2 wks).

How do I convert from ADP to manual process?  I know o 941 forms, quarterly etc.

Is there videos/guidance I can follow?

Good idea to ditch ADP payroll to self processing

Hello there, awan. Let me share some insights about managing your payroll effectively in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Payroll management by hand is less expensive than payroll processing using automated solutions, particularly when managing a small workforce. Payroll done by hand can be more effective. However, payroll must still be processed through QuickBooks even if you use another service, such as ADP, for payroll processing and QuickBooks for accounting.

You'll need to keep monitoring those paychecks in QuickBooks by creating journal entries. To manually enter payroll paychecks and track payment totals into QBO, please refer to this article: Manually enter payroll paychecks in QuickBooks Online.

If you want to convert your ADP payroll data to QuickBooks, you can explore third-party applications that integrate with QBO to help import your data. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Apps tab on the Menu page.
  3. Search for an app in the Find Apps field.

Furthermore, you can check out this article to learn how to run, print, and customize payroll reports: Run payroll reports.

Feel free to use the comment section below if you have further questions about payroll or other QuickBooks-related inquiries. I'll be around to lend a hand. Have a great day.

I don’t have any QB products

I am asking general question, if I were to process payroll manually without any services. Like writing check manually, filing 941 manually to etc

currently we use ADP. We don’t have books,  so no need for journal entries etc

@awan786

Use a free online payroll calculator like Paycheck City or SurePayroll and use Excel to track for 941s, etc.

Hello, @awan786.

I'm here to assist you in navigating the process of paying and e-filing your 941 taxes online.

To begin with, before you can e-pay or e-file payroll taxes using QuickBooks, make sure you complete your payroll tax setup. If you're all set up we can now E-file your tax forms. Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, and select Payroll tax.
  2. Select Filings
  3. You’ll see your forms to file under Action Needed. Forms due later will show in Coming Up. You can select Filter to find the specific form you need faster.
  4. Select File on the form you want to file.
  5. Make sure the File Electronically box is selected.
  6. Select Submit
  7. You can see your filed form under Done and print it if needed.
