How do I opt out of a secondary state on the W-4

It's nice to have you here today, 2711cathleen,

I can help you remove the second state in your employee's W-4 information.

There are two (2) ways to get this done. Let me walk you through the steps:

Option 1: If there aren't any employees under the same state, you can make the work location inactive in the Payroll Settings.

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Payroll Settings.
  3. Choose Work Locations in below the Business Information section.
  4. Click on the state and mark the Inactive box.
  5. Click Save.

Option 2: If you have multiple employees using the same location, you can set the state as Do Not Withhold directly on a specific employee's profile.

  1. Click on the Workers menu.
  2. Go to the Employees tab and click the employee name.
  3. Select the Edit employee button.
  4. In the What are [Employee Name] withholdings? section, click on the pencil icon.
  5. Click the state and update the Filing status to Do Not Withhold.
  6. Click Done.

That should do it, 2711cathleen. Please let me know how it goes. I'll be on a lookout for your response. Have a good one!
