How do I rehire an employee when the "add a space" doesn't work? It rejects the new hire because it has the same SS number.

Thanks for choosing QuickBooks, john159.

You can set the employment status of your rehired employees to active. Let me walk you through the steps.

  1. Click Workers on the left menu.
  2. Select Employees.
  3. Under Action, select the drop-down arrow beside Edit.
  4. Select Make Inactive.

I have the same question as john159.  We are rehiring dome employees after having to terminate them due to COVID-19.  I want to set them up with the new hire date but keep the onl hire and termination dates in the system.  Is there a way to do that?  Why isn't there a "rehire" option for employment status?

Hello there, @Adrienne5!

You can reactivate the status of your employees so you can rehire them.

  1. Go to Workers.
  2. Select Employees.
  3. Find the employee you wanted to rehire.
  4. Under STATUS, select the Terminated menu.
  5. Click Active.
