How do I set custom payroll items in QBO like desktop?

Greetings, kswoodii.

I'd be happy to provide you with easy steps on how to set up custom payroll items via QuickBooks Online.

You can easily add, edit, and delete payroll items in QuickBooks Online. You can follow the step-by-step process below.

Here's how:

  1. Double-click the employee's name.
  2. Click Pay to edit.
  3. Go to How much do you pay on number 4 and click the pencil icon to edit.
  4. Click Even more ways to pay (name of the employee).
  5. Click Add other earnings type and enter the payroll item.
  6. Hit Done.
  7. Click Done again.

I do not have the option to "Add other earnings type".  Any advice?

We'll take more steps to add other pay types, @sahbookkeeper.

On the same screen, look for the Other Earnings box and select it. There will be a new line where you can enter the name of the other earnings type and set up the recurring amount.

I appreciate the screenshot you've provided, @sahbookkeeper.

You can modify the name of any available payroll item on the list. I can walk you through on how to achieve it.

  1. In the How much do you pay page, scroll down to the bottom part of the screen.
  2. Under the Even more ways to pay section, mark any payroll type.
  3. Click the Pencil Icon.
  4. Change the name of the Payroll Item (i.e. Allowance to Other Earnings).
  5. Click Done.
