How do I set up auto-pay for a client. I watched the QuickBooks tutorial, It says to choose automation but I don't have that option. It just says "scheduling"

Do I have to turn-on automation? I'm confused. When I setup to schedule it just creates a template it doesn't send to client or have the tickler box for client to choose auto-pay.

Hello there, Elva1.

The Autopay feature is available on pay-enabled recurring invoices. Setting up auto-pay for a client in QuickBooks Online (QBO) involves a few steps. I'd gladly walk you through the specific steps on how to enable the Autopay feature in QBO.

Here’s a simple guide to help you through the process:

Create a Recurring Invoice:

  1. Go to the + New button and select Invoice.
  2. Fill in the invoice details, then click on Make recurring.
  3. Name the template and set the interval (it could be weekly, monthly, quarterly,).
  4. Enter the start and end dates for the recurring invoice.
  5. Save the template.

Enable Autopay:

  1. Ensure that QuickBooks Payments is turned on.
  2. When creating the recurring invoice, select the option for Autopay.
  3. Your client will receive an email with the invoice and an option to set up autopay.

Client Setup:

  1. The client needs to open the invoice email and select Set up autopay.
  2. They will need to sign in with their Intuit account. If they don't have an Intuit account, they'd need to create a new login.
  3. The client will enter their payment details and confirm the autopay setup.

Manage Autopay:

  1. To check your customer's Autopay status, go to the Sales tab, and then click Invoices.
  2. Find the invoice you wish to check for payment status. Select the Status of that invoice to open the activity tracker panel.
  3. Autopayments are typically deducted 3 days before the invoice due date.

This setup ensures that your clients can conveniently pay their recurring invoices automatically, saving time for both you and them.
