How do we file an amended Form 941 for 2020 to claim ERTC that we now qualify for? We use Self Service Payroll. Is there an option in QBO or should I do it manually?

Hey there, @coopersr11.

For now, QuickBooks Online Payroll doesn't support the filing of amended or corrected forms. You'll have to do it manually outside QuickBooks.

However, you can print some payroll reports and use them as your reference when filing the amended Form 941. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and search for a payroll report.
  2. Filter the dates according to your preferences.
  3. Choose Run Report.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow from the upper right corner of your screen.
  5. Choose Export to Excel.
  6. Open the downloaded file and print it from there.

Once, you can now manually file the amended from outside the program.

Additionally, you can check out the list of payroll reports you can use in this link: Reports available in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

You can also customize them to get the details that matter the most to your business.

If you have any follow-up questions or concerns with regards to handling your taxes in QuickBooks, don't hesitate to get this thread. I'll be more than happy to assist you. Stay safe.

How are we inputting the entries into QBO? The ERTC credit should be listed on the P&L as Other income and the tax tracking that should go to the Cares Retention Cr- Emp?

Hello again, tmosey.

Every business is different, and I can't specify how the entries are entered in QuickBooks Online, so the ERTC credit is listed on the P&L as Other income, and the tax tracking goes to the Cares Retention Cr- Emp. Thus, I suggest consulting a tax professional or financial advisor about this. That'll help you ensure your books are in order.
