Welcome to the Community, Daira.
You can easily prepare and e-file your 1099-NEC forms using the payment data already in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Before you begin, please ensure that Track payments for 1099 is checked on your contractors' profiles. You can refer to this article for guidance on what you need to prepare before filing your 1099-NEC: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.
Once you've verified that all information on your 1099s is correct, you can proceed to e-file. Here’s how to do it:
- After preparing your forms, select E-file and verify the totals.
- Follow the on-screen steps to complete your federal 1099 e-file, and, if available, your state 1099 e-file.
- If prompted, choose how to send copies to your contractors. Be aware that extra fees may apply for mailing 1099 forms.
- If you don't see this, they likely already have online access via their QuickBooks account.
- If an email address is incorrect, update it in QuickBooks, then return to the 1099 e-file process.
- If prompted, enter your billing information.
After submission, QuickBooks will email you a status update. You can also check this anytime in the 1099 Filing section of QBO.
