How to fix QB incorrectly calculated tax payment?

Thank you for posting, @c_piaszczyk.

Are you referring to payroll wage and tax calculations or the sales tax calculation?

If you're referring to the payroll wage and tax calculations, those are based on the payroll data and transactions you entered for your employee. It will automatically calculate the taxes once you enter a paycheck for your employee.

A quick way to correct this is to edit the tax payment is by going to the View tax Payments page. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and select Payroll Tax tab.
  2. Select View Tax Payments you have made, then the tax payment that shows as overpaid.
  3. From the drop-down menu located at the upper right, click Edit.
  4. Make the necessary changes, then hit OK.

Check this article for more information: See a report of tax payments made.

However, if you're referring to the sales tax calculations, it's based on the following:

  • Customer's tax-exempt status
  • Where you sell and where you ship the items
  • Product or service's tax category

For more information on how to record, adjust and delete sales tax payments in the Sales Tax Center, check the following article:
