We are a trucking company with QuickBooks Enterprise desk top version. We want to track payroll expense per truck. Sometimes drivers drive multiple trucks. Can we assign multiple classes to an employee to accomplish this? We would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @LoriKLX.
The option to assign multiple classes to an employee is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. You can only assign one class per entire paychecks or earnings item for paycheck expenses. But rest assured that I'll personally send this feedback to our product developers. This way, it might be given a chance to be added to the next product update.
For now, I'd suggest checking out our QBO Blog site. You'll learn more about our latest news and product innovations from there.
To learn more about tracking payroll classes, please refer to this article: Tracking payroll expenses by class, department, or location.

You can count on me if there's anything else you need. Keep safe always, @LoriKLX.

Yes, you can assign multiple classes to your payroll so you can see your costing per truck.
Do this by first turning on the option and then entering the classes on the paycheck earnings table.
Turn on the option at Edit | Preferences | Payroll & Employees | Company Preferences.
Then enable the option Job Costing, Class and Item tracking for paycheck expenses, and then the sub-option Earnings Item.
Then, on paychecks you can split the employee wages on the paycheck earnings table and enter a different class per row.
RE: "You can only assign one class per entire paychecks or earnings item for paycheck expenses."
This is not correct. It has never been correct. QuickBooks includes the ability to enter more than one class for a check and for an earnings item on a check.
It has had this ability for more than two decades.
Thank you!!
