I do payroll weekly; we were closed last week. How do I delete the "overdue payroll" reminder/error in payroll and have payroll dates move forward to next week's dates?

I have tried resetting the scheduled payperiod end dates and paycheck due date, but that didn't work; it wouldn't reset.

Hello lynn,

To skip a payroll schedule, you'll need to manually edit the dates to the next period:

  1. Select your Payroll Schedule under the Create Paychecks table.
  2. Click the Payroll Schedule button at the bottom of the table.
  3. Choose Edit Schedule. This will open the Edit Payroll Schedule window.
  4. Change the dates for What is the pay period end date and what date should appear on paychecks for this pay period.
  5. Click OK.

I've attached a screenshot for your reference.

After this, you should be able to see the correct dates under the Pay Period and Check Date column.

Please let me know if you're experiencing something else. Thanks!

What if you only want to edit the payroll for one employee not everyone. how would you do that?

What if you want to only skip 1 week of  payroll for one person in a two week pay period?

Thanks for joining us, ReboundPT.

You can definitely unselect a specific employee when running a scheduled payroll in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Employees and Payroll Center.
  2. In the Pay Employees tab, highlight the payroll schedule and click on Start Scheduled Payroll.
  3. Uncheck the employee's name and continue to run payroll.

I have a similar situation here , BUT I’ve processed the payroll cycle earlier than scheduled as I was out of town. The payroll cycle I’ve processed (or supposedly processed) did not get processed after all now looking back. How do I manually process the skipped payroll?

I can show you how to skip that payroll schedule, @Pheeps.

You can simply edit your scheduled payroll date in case it is showing the overdue status. You can do it from the Pay Employees tab.

Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Employees menu at the top and choose Payroll Center.
  2. In the Pay Employees tab, highlight the specific payroll schedule.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Payroll Schedules and choose Edit Schedule.
  4. Update the dates of your pay period end date and paycheck date to the future date.
  5. Click OK once you're done.

That should remove the overdue status of your payroll. You can also use the schedule that you created to avoid an overdue status. The system will keep you notified every time you miss using it.

You can check this article for more information on how to set up and manage payroll schedules.
