Let me help you find the paychecks, WWSS.

Once the payroll data is exported to QuickBooks Online, it will create one transaction in your bank account register for each payroll service paycheck. Depending on how you set your preferences, handwritten checks can be seen in the checking register with or without check numbers.

We'll have to ensure that we're selecting the right bank account. From there, let's filter it to show paychecks only to find the exported transactions. Here's how:

  1. Click Accounting.
  2. Go to the Chart of Accounts tab.
  3. Select the bank account, then click View register.
  4. Click the Funnel icon above the DATE column.
  5. Under Transaction Type, select Payroll Check, then click Apply.

If you're still unable to find them, I suggest reaching out to our payroll support so an agent can trace the transactions.

I'll include this article to guide you better with exporting payroll data to QuickBooks Online: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

My problem is still unresolved. I should note that I am using 2019 QB for Mac desktop (not QB online.) I am using QB online payroll but not QB online.

Hello there, WWSS.

Thanks for the additional information.

QuickBooks Online Payroll doesn't generate IIF files which are needed when importing payroll data to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. You'll want to run reports such as the Paycheck Details report. It shows paycheck amounts and taxes. Once you have pulled up the reports, you can export them and then convert them into an IIF file using a third-party application.

Here's how to run the report:

  1. From the left menu, click Reports
  2. Enter and select in the search field Paycheck Details.
  3. Set the date range and customize it to get the data you prefer.
  4. Click Run report to refresh the display.
  5. At the upper-right, click the export or share icon and then click Export to Excel.
