Once the payroll data is exported to QuickBooks Online, it will create one transaction in your bank account register for each payroll service paycheck. Depending on how you set your preferences, handwritten checks can be seen in the checking register with or without check numbers.
We'll have to ensure that we're selecting the right bank account. From there, let's filter it to show paychecks only to find the exported transactions. Here's how:

My problem is still unresolved. I should note that I am using 2019 QB for Mac desktop (not QB online.) I am using QB online payroll but not QB online.

QuickBooks Online Payroll doesn't generate IIF files which are needed when importing payroll data to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. You'll want to run reports such as the Paycheck Details report. It shows paycheck amounts and taxes. Once you have pulled up the reports, you can export them and then convert them into an IIF file using a third-party application.
