I need to add a IL wage garnishment and their formula doesn't fit with intuit. How do I add a garnishment manually?

Hi there, chadj1328.

Allow me to provide information on adding paycheck garnishments in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

A garnishment is an order issued by a court, the federal government, or a state agency, requiring an employer to withhold a portion of an employee's wages and send the money to a creditor or agency. The order may also include an administrative fee that the employer can collect from the employee. QuickBooks provides only three types of garnishments: Child Support, Federal Tax Levy, and Other garnishment. The garnishment types available in QuickBooks depend on the different state or federal agencies on how the garnishments are set up. To add a specific wage garnishment formula, you can consider checking other options outside of QuickBooks Online.

For more information on garnishing paychecks in QuickBooks, please check out this article: Set up and collect garnishments.

For future use, here's an article on running reports to view useful info about your business and employees: Run payroll reports.

I need to add a IL wage garnishment and their formula doesn't fit with intuit. How do I add a garnishment manually?

I am in Maryland, and I have a few employees that I have to apply wage garnishment to their paychecks.  The rule is: following are exempt from Garnishment, 1) 75% of wage 2) First $900 of the wage.  so, I have to deduct amount either 25% or income above $900 whichever is less. But QuickBooks does not let me to apply those two rules. I used to enter the paycheck and then manually edit the garnishment amount. Recently QuickBooks online does not let me to edit the garnishment manually. I need an immediate help to fix for this problem, or I have no choice but changing my payroll and accounting service provider.

I appreciate the information you've provided, @Reza46. Let's perform troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue with editing your garnishment in QuickBooks.

Before anything else, may I know if you've received an error message when editing the garnishment manually? If so, can you provide us with a screenshot for visual reference? That way, I can check if there's an ongoing investigation related to your specific scenario. Any additional information will be much appreciated so I can assist you appropriately.

In the meantime, let's run the payroll and edit the garnishment in a private browser to check if there are any data issues in your browser.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts to save you time:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

If it works fine, I'd suggest clearing the cache of your main browser to eliminate any outdated files or data that cause system issues and glitches. Otherwise, you can use another supported browser.

Moreover, to learn more about wage garnishment orders using QuickBooks, you can refer to this article: Set up and collect garnishments.

Furthermore, you can check out this article for future reference in managing payroll reports: Run payroll reports.

Keep me updated if you have follow-up questions about managing garnishments and other payroll concerns. I'm always here to help you.

I need to add a IL wage garnishment and their formula doesn't fit with intuit. How do I add a garnishment manually?

Hi Thanks for quick responses

when I run payroll, and try to edit , the edit page opens as usual , with no error . Only wage garnishment part is not editable. ( other parts are editable like taxes , hours , vacation etc )

there is no error . Actually it run smoothly as it used to be , but only garnishment part is not editable.

I changed browser , it did not change , still the problem exists .

I have called quickbooks 1-2 weeks ago . They logged into my computer , but they couldn’t figure out . They send a request for investigation . I was supposed to be contacted in a week , but still no one has contacted me .

I need to add a IL wage garnishment and their formula doesn't fit with intuit. How do I add a garnishment manually?

Hi

Unfortunately, quickbooks can not apply multi rules for garnishment . Even quickbooks representative used to advised us to manually change the amount since quickbooks is not able to apply the multi rules.
I don’t have any problems calculating it , but recently QB has changed the editablity of garnishment  amount in paycheck before approval . Even when QB helper logged in to my computer but couldn’t find a solution.
