I want to keep Quickbooks Desktop and I do not want Quickbooks Online.

I'm here to guide you through setting up a QuickBooks Desktop company, @Tootsie2.

If you have an existing QuickBooks Online account, I recommend canceling it first. See this link for the steps based on where you purchased your subscription: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription or trial.

Once ready, you'll need to download and install the version of your active QBDT subscription. After that, open QuickBooks then go to the File menu and select Close Company. Leave QBDT open while you go through the rest of the steps.

1. Sign in to your QBO company and convert using a supported web browser. Use your Intuit Account credentials.
2. Choose the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should appear as https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. Then click Enter on your keyboard. Other support task links won't work during this process.
3. You'll get an Export Overview Window. Go through the Export Overview. You can print out it if you want. Hit Get Started.
4. Select Download tool to download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
5. Once downloaded, launch it to install and hit Next.
6. Accept the terms in the license agreement and hit Next.
7. Click on Complete as the type of setup, then hit Next.
8. Choose Install, then click on Finish.

Mich_S of the Quickbooks team response had nothing to do with Tootsie2's request. I, like many other Quickbooks users, DO NOT WANT THE DESKTOP VERSION OF QUICKBOOKS TO BE DISCONTINUED. Given the huge increases in pricing that will be coming in 2024 it appears that Intuit is trying to financially motivate users to go to the online version. There are many reasons why Desktop users do not want to use an online version.

1) In bush Alaska and rural America internet is still spotty and unreliable. NONE OF MY ALASKA ACCOUNTING CLIENTS CAN SAFELY USE THE ONLINE VERSION.

2) Many users just don't want all of their financial data online since it can never be guaranteed to be safe from hacking.  Some of these users will only connect to online to verify their subscriptions and then disconnect from the internet.

3) Many users I visited during 2015-2019 (I conducted about 100 audits in Alaska during this time) had switched to online and absolutely hated the online version. Many also eventually switched back to Desktop.

FYI ... those of us who want the Desktop version to continue just want to be heard.

As long as they can't migrate data directly from QBO to TurboTax, they'll keep QBD for now. On the negative side, QBD users have to accept paying a premium price annually.
