If I am set up to pay overtime, but it never calculates the overtime, am I missing something? Intuit has logged on and says it is set up correctly.

I have the employee set up with an additional pay type of "overtime" and the work week starts on Sunday. It always prints the check with all hours as straight time.

Hello @patti-l-kelly,

Welcome to the Community. I can help you make the overtime pay type calculation work in QuickBooks.

There are troubleshooting steps you can perform to isolate and fix the issue. You can start by testing the overtime pay type for a different employee and check the calculation of the hours.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the  Payroll menu, then select Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name.
  3. Press the pencil icon next to  Pay section.
  4. Under Step 4, How much do you pay [employee], select the pencil icon. 1.JPG
  5. Select the Overtime Pay checkbox. (Also select the Double Overtime Pay checkbox if applicable.)
  6. Hit Done.

If it works fine with the other employee, the issue may be related to your profile. Try removing and adding the overtime pay type to determine if the issue persists.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the  Payroll menu, then select Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name.
  3. Press the pencil icon next to  Pay section.
  4. Under Step 4, How much do you pay [employee] and select the pencil icon.
  5. Remove the pay type.
  6. Hit Done.
  7. Go back to Step 4, How much do you pay [employee], then select the pencil icon again.
  8. Add the pay type.
  9. Click Done.

In case the problem continues, please contact our QuickBooks Support Team. I'd suggest using the Get a callback or Start a chat feature from the Help menu.

They'll be able to take over and provide additional troubleshooting to resolve it. Our Customer Support Team is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday) and 6 AM - 3 PM PT (Saturday).

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the Help option in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Get help from a human.
  3. Choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

I am using Quickbooks Time sync to QB Online. It shows overtime in the Time application but all of the hours transfer over the QB Online Payroll as regular. This is for all employees and all are set up with Overtime Pay check marked in their profile. Shouldn't this transfer straight over from the Time app?

Hi there, @GoinGaming.

I'll help transfer your employees' overtime hours from QuickBooks Time to QuickBooks Online Payroll automatically.

Yes, overtime hours will automatically transfer over once both accounts have been synced and integrated. Good work in setting up the overtime set up for your employees in both accounts.

Aside from that, we'll have to use the QuickBooks Time mapping tool to automatically transfer over the overtime hours straight from the app. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to QuickBooks.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Click Payroll Item Mapping Tool.
  4. Under Map Employees, select one from any of your employees.
  5. On the Hour Type column, select each corresponding payroll item setting.
  6. Close the window to save the changes you've made.

And if you're using the advanced overtime tracking option, use the instruction in this article to map your payroll items: Map QuickBooks Payroll Items in QuickBooks Time.

Now that your employees' overtime is transferred automatically, it's time to process their payroll and give them funds for their hours of work. Kindly read and use this reference to prepare the paycheck for your employees: How to Run Payroll in QuickBooks Online Payroll?.

I've got you covered if you have questions about overtime tracking and managing your employees' payroll in QuickBooks. Don't forget to tag me, @JonpriL, in the comments below so that I can get back here and continue working with you. Take care always, @GoinGaming!
