Totally agree with you!  It confuses the heck out of my clients as well.  Both desktop and QBO.

The ads in QuickBooks are designed to guide and suggest you how to optimize your QuickBooks Online experience.

For now, the only way to get rid of the advertisements is by manually closing them through the X sign or the No thanks option. This will prevent the pop-ups from showing up again.

For QuickBooks Desktop, you can follow these steps below to turn it off:

1. Go to the Edit menu.
2. Select Preferences.
3. Then choose General on the left-side panel.
4. Click the My Preferences folder.
5. Check the box next to Turn off popup messages for products and services.
6. Once done, click OK.
