Illinois Minimum Wage Credit calculator for QB desktop

We saw that a client who uses the QuickBooks online payroll subscription was able to have QB calculate the Illinois Minimum Wage Credit.

When will this feature be available for the Quickbooks Payroll Annual Enhanced (Desktop) version?  It is very time consuming to calculate for employers with a lot of minimum wage employees.  If QB has the technology to include it in the online version, I would think the Accountant's version (Desktop) should have it as well.

Or am I missing something?

Thanks for the help

Hi, DS61938.

Allow me to share some information regarding the feature to calculate the Illinois Minimum Wage Credit in QuickBooks Desktop.

Right now, we haven't added this feature yet. QuickBooks aims to find new ways to make sure that your product meets your needs.

While this feature is currently unavailable, as a workaround, you can manually calculate the wage credit and enter it into your QuickBooks.

Step 1: Calculate your wage credits:

  1. Pull up the Illinois Wage Credit Instructions.
  2. Go to page 2 of the IL-941 form in payroll to see how to calculate your wage credits.

Step 2: Enter your wage credit into QuickBooks:

  1. Go to Employees, then Payroll Center, and select File Forms.
  2. Highlight the Illinois 941 Quarterly Returns, and select Create Form.
  3. In Step 5: Tell us about your payments and credits, fill in the information that you calculate the wage credits:
    • Enter "0" in the Years Left to Carry column.
    • Enter 0900 for the IL Wage Credit Code in the Credit Code column.
    • Enter the year and month for the credit in the Qtr ending Credit Earned column, and use this format: (2020-01 for Q1 2020).
    • Enter the calculated credit amount in the Credit Earned field.
  4. Follow the instructions on the form to file with the state.

I'm sharing with you the following resources below. It contains information on what forms are available as well as the options on how to file them in QuickBooks Desktop. Also, this will provide you more insights regarding paying and filing your taxes before the deadline:

Thank you for the information.  I will sign up for the newsletter.  Hopefully next quarter the desktop version will add this calculation feature that is already included in the online version.  We are aware of how to add the credits to the form once they are calculated.  That step takes little to no time.   The time consuming part (hours) is doing the actual calculation of the credit for an employer with 45 minimum wage employees.

Thank you for the response.  However, I don't understand why the online version of QB has the capability to actually calculate the credit but the desktop version does not.

We know how to do it, but it is very time consuming.  We believe with our payroll subscription, the SOFTWARE should be calculating the credit.

Is this in the works?

This is a typical CUT & PASTE answer from Quickbooks.

You should address the requests of your customers.

Our firm spends a lot of money purchasing Quickbooks, Proseries and other Intuit products, we need the same service as you give your Online customers.  I believe that your talented programmers should be able to figure out how to add this feature (Illinois Minimum Wage Credit calculation) to the desktop version.

We need this Illinois Minimum Wage Credit calculation programmed into DESKTOP version as it is in the ONLINE version.
