Hello @QikbooksNewb,

Welcome aboard to the QuickBooks Community! I'm here to help you decide which QuickBooks product to choose for your specific needs.

First, I recommend identifying the needed features before choosing a QuickBooks type. This way, you'll know if you need a higher version with more features and options.

QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) helps record your income and expenses, separate business and personal transactions, track mileage, and prepare your Schedule C. This program is primarily for freelancers, independent contractors, and service-based entrepreneurs.

In general, you're self-employed if any of the following apply:

  • You run a business as a sole proprietor or an independent contractor.
  • You are a member of a partnership or business.
  • You are in business for yourself (including a part-time business).
  • You need to file a Schedule C and your business taxes with a 1040.

QBSE works for users like you who have no employees. However, it'll still depend on the details you need to track from our system.

Each version of QuickBooks addresses specific business needs to help you manage your business account efficiently. I highly suggest checking out this link to learn more about different QuickBooks products and versions: See which version of QuickBooks is right for you.

You can also seek expert advice from an accountant. They can provide suggestions for additional guidance too.

I have information about how QuickBooks tracks everything throughout the year for Self-Employed. Aside from the overview, this article shows you how to get set up: QuickBooks Self-Employed Overview.

Please keep in touch if you have more questions or need assistance with the QuickBooks sign-up process. We'll be more than happy to lend a hand.

The comparison chart you linked does not include Self-Employed.

Thanks for joining this thread, @allisonnch. Let me chime in and provide some information about QuickBooks features.

You’re correct. The comparison chart shared by my colleague doesn’t include details for QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). You can use these resources instead to view the QuickBooks Self-Employed features, pricing, and its difference from other programs:

I’m also adding these guides to help learn more about the basics and best practices in managing your company using QBSE:

What if you are a small business owner and file as sole proprietor (LLC).  Does it benefit me to have self employed vs online? It would be nice to keep track of both personal and business and keep them separate. Especially when filing a Schedule C.

Hello.

I’m reaching out because I made a significant mistake with my own account and I'm hoping you might be able to help.

I had been using QuickBooks Self-Employed since February, but I recently migrated it to QuickBooks Simple Start under the impression it would be an upgrade.

Unfortunately, I discovered too late that the features in QBSS are quite different, and I can’t revert back to Self-Employed—especially since Intuit no longer offers this product to new customers.

After speaking with Intuit, they informed me that the only solution would be to locate an active or canceled Self-Employed account (one that hasn’t been migrated) and arrange with the owner to transfer it.

If you happen to have a Self-Employed account you’re not using and would consider selling, plese reply to this message with your contact information so we an discuss terms.

I’m willing to handle the transaction securely via Zoom, phone, or even a conference call with an Intuit representative to ensure transparency.

I would only need the current owner to delete their personal data and payment information, set up a temporary email and password, and then I’d confirm access before completing the payment right away.

Thank you very much for your time and for considering my request—I truly appreciate it and am grateful for any assistance.

Best regards,
Javier
