Is time tracking included with quickbooks plus?

I have great news for you, @lauren potter.

 

Time tracking is a built-in feature that is also available in QuickBooks Online Plus. You can use this feature to track and bill customers for the number of hours consumed in a project or activity. All you have to do is enable this feature from the settings.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Gear at the top, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Choose Advanced
  3. Tap the pencil to the right of Time tracking. Then, turn on Make Single-Time Activity Billable to Customers and Add Service field to timesheets. When either of these is checked, employees and contractors who fill out timesheets can specify if activities should be billed to a customer.
  4. Click Save and then Done. See attached image below.

So does this mean you don't have to pay for quickbooks time? I'm confused on the difference between Quickbooks time and the time tracking in quickbooks. Are they one and the same? Do you need a quickbooks time subscription to use the quickbooks time app on your phone? Or is this included with a particular QuickBooks Online subscription tier?

Hi Lauren!

 

There are two services for time tracking. One is the Basic time tracking, which is free, and the other one is the QuickBooks Time (Elite or Premium), which requires you to subscribe.

 

When you click Time to the left-hand side, you can add any of the two as your time-tracking service. The service you've selected will also be available in your QBO mobile app.

 

 

 

If you want to check to see if you're subscribed to QuickBooks Time, you can go to your Billing &Subscription page in your settings. You will also see other services that you're subscribed to on that page.

I have been attempting to activate Basic Time Tracking in QBO Plus.  The Time tab does not appear in the left menu so I am not able to select the Basic Time Tracking versus the paid QB Time option as described in this thread.  I spent about 4 hours with various QB technicians trying to get the Time tab to activate, but with no success.  They finally tell me that Basic Time tracking is no longer available and that I must subscribe to the fee-based QB Time.  That does not seem consistent with this thread and the other current QB marketing materials and tutorials.  My questions are (1) is Basic Time Tracking still available as part of the basic QBO Plus subscription and (2) any ideas why the Time tab does not appear in the left menu?

Afaik, you can register Time Activities data manually or import the data in bulk. You need QB Time or a 3rd party time tracking app to sync data.

Thanks for the reply, but my question is whether or not the QB Online Plus subscription still provides the option for either (a) Basic Time Tracking or (b) QB Time which is the paid subscription (as described by JessT in the post above).  The current QB Online Plus information on the intuit website indicates the Basic Time Tracking feature is available but when I speak with QB online technicians (4 separate calls totaling about 4 hours) they are not familiar with the current offerings and the last person came to the conclusion that a paid QB Time subscription is required which is not consistent with information accessed on the Intuit website via the help function.  I cannot get a straight answer on this question and am hoping someone from QB can answer this question.

Recently converted to QB Online Plus. All of the sales literature notes time tracking as included but when I attempt to enable time tracking I get a pop up asking me to sign up for an additional $20/mo. 

Spent 2-1/2 hours on the phone with QB Customer Service yesterday. Intuit thinks so little of their clients that they send their calls offshore - the second person didn't speak enough English to understand or answer my questions. I was told the call would be escalated and that another agent would call me the same day but there was no follow up. 

QuickBooks Online is the most frustrating software I've dealt with - there is nothing intuitive about it. And, QuickBooks corporate (Intuit) customer service is non-existent.

Let me share some insights about the time tracking options available in QuickBooks Online (QBO), so you can select the one that best suits your business needs.

 

There are two available services for time tracking that let you access timesheets from QBO. You can either use the built-in Basic time tracking or QuickBooks Time. The first one is included in your current plan for free, while the latter is a subscription-based application that you can integrate into your QBO account.

 

 

Based on your description, I can tell you want to use QuickBooks Time. That's why you get a pop-up asking you to sign up for an additional fee ($20) per month.

I have the same question and the same experience getting an answer from QB. Shame on you Quick Books - this thread dates back years and you've not addressed the issue.

In QBO Plus I would like to activate Basic time tracking. Every time I try to activate the Basic plan for time tracking, it does not activate.  It just keeps coming back to the same screen where it has you review pricing.

 

To activate time tracking we "check out pricing" on the options.time 1download.png
And scroll to the bottom of the options and select- Use basic time tracking.

Normally this lets us move forward with time entries.  But this does not work and we keep getting thrown back to the check out pricing option.
We cleared cache, used incognito, changed browsers, changed computers, none of the usual tricks worked.

I have the exact same issue and SOOO beyond frustrated.  What I had to do was manually enter the URL to get to the time tracking.  https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/timetracking

 

Basically, just add "tracking" to "time" in the URL if you are at the screen that you can't escape where QB forces you to look at their pricing for their other broken services.

Hello there, @Fishermanjuice.I recognize that having the option to do it automatically would very much help you accomplish your tasks easily. If only a workaround's available to help you get through this, I'd probably have given it to you to save you some time.

 

As I've checked here on my end, the feature you're trying to access is unavailable. I'll recommend reaching out to our Product Development Team. This way, they'll see your feature request and have it included on the next program update. I'll gladly input the steps below. To begin, here's how:

 

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Under Profile column, select Feedback.
  4. Input a brief description of your feature suggestion.
  5. Once you're ready, click Done.

My workaround works even though QB software is broken.  I would say QB Online is currently falsley advertising its QB Online Plus service given that my workaround is the only way to enter time manually.  You can see on your main website Intuit QuickBooks Online - Quickbooks that QB Online Plus has a check for "Enter Time", yet per this thread there is no link to actually Enter Time manually without my workaround.  I am not going to do your job for you.  You need to report this.

I 100% agree and have experienced the same frustration as everyone else in this thread. I've wasted hours of my life and still have no idea how to invite my employees to track their time. Entering time for payroll IS DIFFERENT than time tracking. QB is falsely advertising a service and no one seems to care because they want to frustrate you into paying more. All the QB support articles are out of date, there is no accurate information anywhere. Can someone please do something about this?

Thanks for sharing information about your concern. To help you invite your employee to track time, you can follow these steps:

 

  1. Add the employee to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Next, go to the Time tab and select Launch QuickBooks Time.
  3. Once opened, click the My Team menu and click the Add team member option.
  4. From there, select the employee you want to invite.
  5. Then, click Send invite.

 

Once the employee accepts the invite. They can now track their hours for specific times and duration. For reference, check out this article: Turn on and set up time tracking in QuickBooks Online.

As I mentioned above, your solution is out-of-date and only works if you purchase the premium time keeping add on.  It does not work to provide the advertised Basic Time Tracking. You must enter the URL directly to reach Basic Time Tracking. As discussed, it should be a lawsuit for false advertising as currently set up.

While I appreciate your quick response, you seem to have missed the point. No one in this thread wants to upgrade to QuickBooks Time. QB promises time tracking with Online Plus, but does not actually offer it. No one can tell us how or where to use it. All your content is outdated. You are selling something that does not exist. It is considered fraud. Remedy this issue right away.

Seriously, this is fraud. They are advertising a service which no longer exists and all paths lead to, paying us more for Quickbooks Time. I think everything in this thread should get together and raise this issue up. No one at Quickbooks seems to care that they are conducting unethical practices and they don't provide a path to collectively offer feedback except through their ticketing system which no one importance pays attention to.
