Buy nowI completed a JE to credit Wages and debit a EE Retirement plan. I needed to show this adjustment on the year end W2 for 2023. Box 12 a (D) should have increased. Nothing changed. QB Help is closed. Wondering why the JE did not update the employee information on the W2.
Ensuring the accuracy of your W-2 form is crucial, Shawn. I can provide you with the necessary details about it.
Manually entering payroll paychecks into QuickBooks Online tracks payment totals but doesn't generate the required data for your employees' W-2s. If adjustments or corrections are needed, especially if the payroll was entered through a journal entry, it's best to contact our Live Support Team for assistance.
The responsibility for fixing your W-2 and W-3 forms depends on your automated taxes and forms setting. Since we handle your W-2 filing, you should reach out to our Payroll Support to request a correction. We will rectify the issue and file a W-2C form with the SSA.
If you identify the mistake before filing your W-2s and W-3, you won't need to create or file a W-2c form but rather rectify the issue in your product and proceed with filing your W-2 forms as usual.
For more comprehensive information, please refer to this article: Fix an incorrect W-2 and W-3.
You can also print your W-2 within the program.

The Community space is available 24/7, Shawn. If there's anything else you need to ask when handling W-2s, I'll surely get back to assist. Have a good one.
Thank you Sirie. However, I've already done payroll all year; so it's not editing via 'adding paycheck info' like the video says. I can't reach out to Support because they aren't open on the weekend. According to other support within QB ... it seems that I should be able to "fix the issue" (item 1 in the help below)...but I don't know how since the JE didn't work.
You don’t need to create or file a W-2c form. You can just take these steps:
We appreciate you for coming back here, @shawnSM.
Let me route you to the best possible help so you can file your W2 for 2023 in a clean slate.
Just like my colleague above mentioned, it's best to talk to a QuickBooks Online Payroll representative for correction. Here's how:
QuickBooks Online Payroll Core - Monday to Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium, Elite - any time, any day.
Except for closed holidays: 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day.
After the correction, you can file your W2 outside QuickBooks.
