mapping desktop chart of accounts for payroll with online

Hi,

I'm trying to map the setting up of the online payroll journals with the imported payroll entries from Desktop - so in Desktop I had Payroll Expenses - Pension - Bonuses - but the April payroll done on line is using Wages Expense and several liability accounts - I have been onto settings/payroll settings but will not let me map the COA to Payroll Expenses  - what am i missing?

mapping desktop chart of accounts for payroll with online

Hi there, BW53.

Let me share some information about some limitations when converting to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

There's some payroll info that doesn't transfer since QuickBooks Desktop has more payroll features over to the online version, such as employee address. For more details, see the Payroll section through this article:  What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks Online only allows a Liability account for the deductions and taxes. With QuickBooks Online, you'll have the option to use different accounts for different wages.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose the Payroll Settings.
  3. Click the Preference tab.
  4. Go to the Accounting Preferences.
  5. Choose bank account for your payroll.
  6. Choose the specific wage expense account for your employee by clicking the drop-down arrow.
  7. Click OK.

You can check out these articles about importing your data to Online version:
