Missing check number on Employee Information screen. Used to be there.

The check number used to be listed on the Employee Information screen.  It is no longer there. The check date and check amount are still visible.  I thought maybe I grabbed and reduced the column size to 0, but don 't see where that is the case.  Has anyone else experienced this?  How did you fix it?

Thank you for any assistance you can give.

I can help you find the missing column for the paycheck number on the Employee information screen.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Employee center.
  3. Choose the name of the Employee.
  4. Right-click on the transactions and select Customize columns.
  5. When you're done, select OK.

Missing check number on Employee Information screen. Used to be there.

Hello there, @Dollar1828

There could be possible data damage for this missing check number on the employee's page.

We can run the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix this error. First off, let's ensure that your company file hasn't been rebuilt since you started noticing the missing check number. Here's how tell if your file has been rebuilt:

  1. On your QuickBooks company file, press the F2 key on your keyboard to open the Product Information screen.
  2. On the Versions Used on File section, look for RB which shows when the file was rebuilt.
  3. Check the rebuild date and time, then restore the backup made just before that rebuild.

If you're unsure where the backup file is located, check out the Display hidden files and folders or search for files using Windows for help in searching for .qbb file on your computer.

If you do not see RB in the Versions Used on File list, then your file has not been rebuilt. You can start to run the QuickBooks File Doctor from the QuickBooks Tools Hub.

For future reference, check out this link in case you'll need some steps to fix company file issues in QBDT.

Let me know how it goes for you, @Dollar1828. I'll be here to help you some more of your concerns.

Missing check number on Employee Information screen. Used to be there.

Katherine,

Thank you so very much for your reply.  My last rebuild was 5/24/21 and this issue started a couple of weeks ago.  The whole column for the paycheck number is missing on the Employee Information screen as if it is being hidden or dropped off.  There is no information missing just the column where it used to show on this screen.  More like a formatting issue.

I noticed you suggested rebuilding if I had not before.  Might it help to do it now or does the Rebuild only pertain to data?

Also if I restore a backup don't I loose the data after that point?

Thanks,

Debbie R.
