Multi Currency for Payroll

Hello community,
Is there a possible way to use the manual payroll function within QB Desktop Premier 2020 after activating multi-currency, using home currency- Naira?

And in trying to pay employees with the Naira Bank account the software says "payroll features in QuickBooks can only be used with USD bank accounts".

Any way around this?

Hello there,

If you turn on the Multicurrency feature in QuickBooks Desktop, disabling it won't be possible. That said, you can no longer change the home currency that you have selected. If you want to process transactions without the multi currencies, you can restore and use a backup of your company file. Feel free to visit this article for the detailed process: Restore a backup of your company file.

Meanwhile, the payroll feature in your QuickBooks Desktop allows you to generate paychecks in US Dollars currency. In your case, you may manually process your employee's paycheck. Here's how:

  1. From the Edit dropdown menu, click Preferences.
  2. Select Payroll & Employees, then choose the Company Preferences tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Features section, select the Full Payroll and the Manual Payroll checkboxes.
  4. In the Get Payday peace of mind window, click Next and then Activate in the confirmation screen.
  5. Select OK to apply the changes.
  6. Click OK to exit out of the preferences window.

For detailed information, refer to this article: Learn how to set up manual payroll in QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks James for the reply.

I have initially activated the Manual Payroll option, but the question is,

"Is there any way I can generate paychecks in Naira (home currency), using Naira Bank account instead of US dollars bank account as required?"

I hope you quite understand my question.

Multi Currency for Payroll

Hi there,

Thanks for the clarification. I recognize that printing your check in your desired currency is a great idea. I've come to provide insights so you can manage and print your checks accordingly.

As mentioned by our previous representative, once you select the home currency during the initial setup of your QBDT software, the option to change it is currently unavailable. Thus, the currency used for paychecks in QBDT is determined by the home currency set during the initial setup of the software.

For now, you can use the Feedback feature to send the idea of printing checks in different currencies. This way, they could take action to help improve your experience. Rest assured, they're working nonstop to enhance the product and deliver the best experiences to all QuickBooks users.

Here's how you can send feedback through QuickBooks:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then Send Feedback Online.
  3. Tap on Product Suggestion.
  4. Enter your feedback or suggestions.
  5. Hit the Send Feedback button.

Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development Team to help improve your QuickBooks experience.
