I can share some tips on how you fix that, brixcellars.
There might be an anomaly on the employees' paychecks that's why the Social Security wages amount became negative. To isolate the issue, you'll want to review all of the payroll transactions for the year. You can pull up the Payroll Detail Review report to check the taxes withheld for each employee. I'll guide you how:
- Select Reports from the top menu bar.
- Head to the Employees & Payroll section.
- Select Payroll Detail Review.
- Set the appropriate reporting date.
- Review the amount of taxes withheld.
If the amounts are incorrect, you may need to conduct a payroll adjustment to correct them. I'd also recommend getting in touch with our technical supports so we can look into your accounts in a secure environment. Then, investigate what's causing the negative value. Here's how:
- Open QuickBooks.
- Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
- Click Contact Us.
- Enter "Social Security wages showing as a negative number in Form W-2" in the description box.
- Click Let's talk and then choose a way to connect.
Our representatives are available from Monday to Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M Pacific Time.
Additionally, here's an article that you can read to be guided in filing and printing your W-2 forms:
