Payroll

When we hire someone new they receive a paycheck on the next pay date, usually this is a benefit for them as they may get paid for 40 hours but actually work less hours.  Our normal pay period is Friday to Thursday with paychecks issued on Thursday.  This has worked well for us, but now we are experiencing issues with newer employees not always working 40 hours a week and we added the direct deposit option which requires me to run payroll two days sometimes three days early.  What I have been doing is running payroll when the direct deposit is required and then holding the printed paychecks until Thursday. When we did not have direct deposit I could adjust hours on payroll and print checks.  I am trying to figure out a solution so that adjustments can be made on payday before paper checks are prepared.

Payroll

Hello, @Angie13.

I'd be happy to assist you in navigating the process of making payroll adjustments within QuickBooks Desktop.

To make changes to your employees' payroll, we can set up unscheduled checks in QuickBooks Desktop. This will allow you to make adjustments to their hours, bonuses, commissions, or termination/final checks as needed. Let me walk you through the process.

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select Pay Employees
  3. Choose Unscheduled Payroll as the check type.
  4. Enter the payroll details then click the Continue button.
  5. Review the payroll details.
  6. Click the Create Paycheck button.
