QB Desktop Federal Income Tax

I received a "do not reply" message Jovychris but it said, of course, DO NOT REPLY on the address.  I did follow the link she gave me this morning around 10:00am.  It is now 1:43pm and still no call back!  I need someone to help me with payroll in desktop.  I am switching from Online to Desktop and the withholding is not correct in desktop.  All employees are set up correctly,

For example a payroll check for $800/week

in desktop Federal Income Tax is $13.00

in online Federal Income Tax  $58.89

I need to know how to correct this asap so my employees will have correct W2

Thank you!

I got your back to ensure you'll be able to run payroll smoothly, @RC434.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), several factors affects the calculation of your Federal Income tax. To further verify the cause of the incorrect withholding, I recommend reviewing the set up and the information in your employee's W4.

The following are the data that has an impact on your income tax amount calculations:

  • Employee's filing status
  • Number of allowances or extra withholding amount in the employee setup
  • Pay Frequency
  • Gross wage in a given pay period.

You can browse this helpful article to know more about how taxes are calculated in QBDT: Understand how QuickBooks Desktop calculates your payroll taxes.

You may also want to run payroll reports to get clearer details of your employee information, business finances and payroll taxes. Once you open one, you can download and print the data to have a handy copy of it.

I'm always willing to lend a hand with any payroll concerns you may have. Feel free to add a reply below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Take care and have a great day ahead.

Thank you for your response.  I understand how it is calculated but why the difference between desktop calculations and online calculations?  On some checks there is a $50 difference.
