Buy now & saveEach quarter, my business is required to file the Oregon Quarterly Tax Report and then pay the associated taxes. For some reason, Quickbooks filed this report on April 8th but didn't pay until April 30th when the tax was due. This triggered a letter from the Oregon Department of Revenue to state that my taxes were overdue, and I was assessed a penalty.
I spoke to someone from the Department of Revenue who admitted that the report should have not been issued, but they know it will happen every quarter if Quickbooks continues to file so early without paying.
How do I get Quickbooks to change the date they're filing? There's no reason for them to file so early.
I called support today, and as usual I was pulling my hair out by the time I hung up. QB reps have no idea what's going on, place you on hold for so long only to come back and repeat what they think you said (and get it wrong), then put you on hold again. This rep asked me to provide the letter from the Department of Revenue.
I get it. Documentation is a good thing. However, I know from experience that I will go through these hoops only to have my issue not resolved again. Last time I submitted documents the "expert" at QB told me the government was wrong and they would not change the way they were doing things.
I'm just at a loss as how to actually have issues resolved. My last issue was also with how QB is calculating taxes wrong and now I have to file an amendment each quarter. Can I just request that reports are not filed until a payment is made? Or can I file the reports myself since QB can't manage to do it right?
I appreciate the time and effort you've spent with our support and I wish you didn't go through all these hurdles, smotsch17.
To answer your question, yes, you can have the reports not filed if payments have not been made by disabling the Auto Pay & File feature in QuickBooks Online. To do that, here are the steps:
After that, you can now manually file your taxes and forms by yourself moving forward.
As for the penalties, if you’re using QuickBooks Online Payroll Elite, you’re covered by our tax penalty protection, which can reimburse up to $25,000 per year for payroll tax errors. I recommend contacting our Tax Notice Resolution Team for assistance.
Here's how:
Make sure to verify their support hours to see when they are accessible. You can find the Support hours section in this article and choose QuickBooks Payroll.
If you need copies of your payroll tax payments and forms in the future, you can view and print them. For more details, check this article: View your previously filed tax forms and payments. Then, select QuickBooks Online Payroll for the product.
If you have more questions regarding your payroll taxes or any other payroll-related tasks, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to assist you!
So there's no way to have QB just file on a different date?
No way to have QB continue to pay my taxes for me but stop filing for me?
And no way to toggle off only the payments or filings that QB keeps messing up?
It's an all-or-nothing thing? But even if I do all the work myself, I still pay the same subscription price?
I just want to make sure I'm understanding all of this correctly.
