Questions about migration from Intuit Online Payroll to Quickbooks Payroll Core

I am frustrated.  I have been using Intuit Payroll for years.  I am also using Quickbooks online for the last year.  I planned at some point to transfer to Quickbooks, but I have found Quickbooks to be a challenge. I have a background in accounting, but much of the accounting feastures in QB are difficult to use.

My problem now, is that it seems I must migrate to QB Payroll soon.

I use Live Bookkeeping.  However, they are not able to help me with this.  I dread doing the migration myself.  I have done data transfers in the past, and they are never clean.

My most is important question is, why is QB not doing this migration for it's customers??? Do I really have to do it manually?  I have tried several times to talk to someone at QB, but I get transferred around and long waits and leave with not real answers.

Where can I get information on what I need to do?  When do I need to do it? And is there anyone that can answer my questions.  I have read the blogs, please don't direct me to a blog article.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

Questions about migration from Intuit Online Payroll to Quickbooks Payroll Core

Just a heads up and a warning to all Intuit Online Payroll users trying to migrate.  I started the migration early on Monday to receive the discount.  As of Tuesday, I do not have access to my payroll clients from Intuit Online Payroll or Quickbooks Online.  I have spent THREE HOURS on tech support which took me to Tier 2.  I was told it should be fixed by this morning and it is not.  I received a call that said he would check on it and get back to me.

This is not OK!!!!!   Intuit of all companies should know not only how important this service is on a daily basis to have access but that this time of year is even more important, year end bonuses to put through, looking toward year end reporting, etc.  NOT THE RIGHT TIME FOR A MIGRATION!!

I was told that if I don't have access when i need to do a payroll they can put it through for me.  If they can see it and put it through, why IN THE WORLD can I not just get it back to Intuit Online payroll until they get their act together.

Intuit has gone downhill in the last 2-3 years and continues to do so.  I know much more than the tech support reps that answer my calls.  They are absolutely clueless.  Then this whole process of them talking to the back of the house and relaying messages back and forth eats my time away, thus 3 hour tech support calls.  I pray to God a competitor will rise up and take their place.

I have been an Intuit customer for 16 years.  I know some of you on here could be longer.  I use to tout QB to everyone.  Not any more.  I have not even been offered anything for all of my trouble.  I'm sure I am expected to just pay the monthly fees for my access and move on.  Beyond discouraged.

Can you tell me where the attachment with pricing is located?  I am having issues getting my wholesale discount as I was told I would when I converted.  Every month I have to call and argue with support to get the discount that I had with IOP.

This forced conversion to a "better" platform has been a nightmare for me.  I have called support to get issues resolved weekly since December, I called support maybe 3 times in the 7+ years that I used Intuit Online Payroll.  After tax season I will be looking at other options.

@ WTS   You are lucky you are getting support issues resolved. Since our conversion January 1, we have outstanding issues that aren't resolved.

Three times I have requested a supervisor call. Each time, it takes about 25 minutes of time, just to put in a request to have a supervisor call you.

Guess how many supervisors have called in the 24-48 hour time window they provide you.  Zero!

Support has been an absolute joke!

I demo'd Gusto and Rippling and ended up switching my entire book of 15 payroll clients from Intuit to Rippling as of January 1st. Rippling requires a bit of work to fully understand the interface and why it works the way it does but it does interface with many other apps. Thus far my clients, once trained on how to use it, have been very happy with our switch to Rippling. It just took a few payrolls to understand the reports and such. I think it is such a total shame what Intuit did to the superior Paycycle product. Quickbooks Online Payroll is just no substitute and the customer support is the worst. Rippling has been very responsive to our needs thus far. I would not recommend it to a solo small business owner but I would definitely recommend it for an experienced payroll bookkeeper/accountant. The price hike that Intuit has instituted with their great rollover also makes these others palatable because they aren't that different from Intuit pricing.

Questions about migration from Intuit Online Payroll to Quickbooks Payroll Core

I was on the phone for 2 hours yesterday between 7 people and finally got to someone that knew what I was asking.  Only then to be told "sorry, you can't migrate yet and we don't know why. Here's a case number so you can still get the discount for migrating early."  And all this and still tripling the cost per month.  Yeah, after using IOP for 10 years, I'm searching for a new payroll system.

Questions about migration from Intuit Online Payroll to Quickbooks Payroll Core

Here is the facts. The conversion went well from intuit online payroll to quickbooks online payroll.I waited for them to automatically migrate me. I heard that was the best way. I set up additional automatic payroll payments. Browsing around the software was easy to understand. Now the bad part. Do not believe that there is anyway to convert your payroll information from a iif format into a qif format. I followed numerous instructions on how to download the free version of quickbooks desktop to make the conversion in the program from a iif file to a qif file. It cant be done. And do not try to call support because NO ONE knows anything about it. You will be transferred between qbop to qbdt and back and forth and back and forth. No one will help you.  After 4 hours trying I finally got a response to call quicken. Quicken does not support intuit products so that will not help you either. the only solution is to get new software or do manual entries into quicken. It takes some time and understanding but will work. You will have to label everything a payroll liability or expense in the splits. You can use a previous paycheck in quicken to guide you. I really hope someone from quickbooks online payroll or quickbooks desktop reads this and does something about it. something very concise showing how to export payroll data in a iif file and then how to import it into qbdt. Then how to convert the data into a qif file and save it for importing into quicken. I am not getting my hopes up at this point  It is a real shame that they forced us into another program with no solutions.

An interesting thing happened.  I, like you was furious about the lack of support exporting to Quicken.  I also waited until the conversion was forced.  Then an interesting thing happened.  In the settings was "export to QIF", carried over from IOP.  I ran my first payroll - and it worked, including the export to QIF - flawlessly.

Either no one at Quickbooks had a clue that this was a feature - or perhaps giving the benefit of a doubt - they held my conversion until they resolved the issue because I had reached out repeatedly.  In any event, it worked and I'm very happy.  So long as it continues to work, i'm set.  dispcarl - suggest that you try exporting and see what happens.  It may be that you cannot set up a new QIF export - but if it came over that way it will continue.  Just hoping that my saying something doesn't cause it to be broken.....

Could you tell me exactly the steps to find the export qif file  in qbop? I do not see it in my version. I went to the settings wheel in the upper right and I do not see it.

First check under "Payroll Settings".  the second line "Export" for me says:

Export
Choose how payroll transactions are exported
Export transactionsQuicken for Windows or Mac (QIF)

The under "Payroll"  there is an "Export" icon.  Click that and it works pretty similar to what we had in IOP.
Let us know how it goes.

I was VERY worried - and then VERY relieved....

Yes! I got it! I had downloaded qbdesktop so it was not allowing me to access the screen to change where the files were being exported to. Once I uninstalled quickbooks desktop, I was able to access the screen where I could make the change to exporting to quicken with a qif and it worked! You solved a problem that no one at the company could do for 4 hours for me. Thank you Thank you!

Only 4 hours?

I wasted a lot more than that getting nonsense answers from Intuit.  Their service is disappointing.

Fortunately the software works - even if the company has no clue that it does.

All's well that ends well.....

It was my pleasure to help you.

It was 4 hours this time around. There were many more hours in July and December. Fortunately, I did get some good advice to wait for the migration. And like you said, just because support doesn't know about the qif file feature now included , at least the company listened to the complaints and made the necessary changes. They now need to train their staff that this feature is now working.

Anybody happy yet with being forced to change to to Quickbooks payroll?
Anybody like QB better than Intuit Online Payroll?

I am hoping to hear some good reports!!!!

I have been using Intuit Payroll (formerly Paycycle) since 2009.     I am supposed to be switching today before tomorrow's payroll run.   After reading this thread I am horrified!

You can make the change to QuickBooks Online Payroll now or we'll automatically move your info to QuickBooks after April 2.

You will also need to make sure that electronic services are turned on. QBOP said mine was turned on but it wasn't. You will need to check your bank statements to see if the money was withdrawn. I had to file my quarterly forms manually and make my deposits outside of the program. My e services is still not resolved.

Thank you. spent 30 minutes waiting for a callback and 1.5 more hours on the phone to see if they had resolved my issue with e-filing. I still do not know if my efiling is working (I even gave them a ticket number about the issue they are supposedly working on). Calling a call center is a joke and asked to be transferred to a supervisor and they just transfer me to another low level support person. I am going to try a email to the office of the president to see if they can help me. So far I am less than impressed with the migration.

Questions about migration from Intuit Online Payroll to Quickbooks Payroll Core

IOP accountant has now been down for 3 days.  The engineers cannot fix and do not know what is happening.  Many of you may know that there are still clients who are not eligible to go from IOP to QBO payroll.  Those clients have had their accountants locked out of their payroll... so if they never had a manage payroll login, they are SOL and cannot pay their employees nor access any of their records, pay taxes, etc.

This is one of the most catastrophic intuit failures I've witnessed in over 20 years of using their products.  Payroll is a very consequential product to play with so recklessly.  Intuit either needs to get QBO payroll transitions completed today for 100% of remaining customers, or restore IOP accountant site access at once.

I'm here to help and ensure that your questions are addressed accordingly, chuggy.

For me to be able to provide you with the right issue resolution, could you please tell me what happens when you try to log in to the IOP accountant site? Are you getting a specific error?

It would be best if you can send me a screenshot as well. Any additional information would be highly appreciated.

I hope you can respond to me on this thread chuggy so we can work on this issue together. Please know I'm ready to assist further. Have a good one.
