QuickBooks Online Payroll Setup Error - Medicare and SS Percentages

Hi,

I am trying to setup employee's payroll and am entering historical amounts from a spreadsheet where payroll was tracked previously (for 2022).

I get the error: "Error message: The amounts you entered may be incorrect. Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA) are expected to be percentages of an employee's taxable earnings. Check that the amounts you entered are correct."

I have found these other threads: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/getting-an-error-message-when-tryi...https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/install/getting-error-message-when-inputting-emplo...https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/how-do-i-get-past-this-error-to-pr...

All with the same problem and with no resolution other than "call quickbooks", and plenty of unhelpful comments like (multiply taxable wage by 6.2% or 1.45%). I've done that. I've even toyed with the rounding. Quickbooks obviously has an amount it thinks it should be. The question is, why isn't it giving detail about it and what if a historical amount was incorrect?

I've also called quickbooks and was told by a representative that I should "call the IRS".

Exceptionally frustrated. I need a resolution to this so I can move everything over out of spreadsheets. Is there someone who works at quickbooks that has a solution to this?

QuickBooks Online Payroll Setup Error - Medicare and SS Percentages

Hello there, @cket. I know how important this is for you to process your payroll on time. Let me share additional information to get this sorted out as soon as possible.

The error message you've encountered is caused by an incorrect calculation of Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA). To get rid of this error, we have to enter the correct amount of these deductions. With this, I highly suggest you consult your accountant to guide you with the calculations. If you don't have one you can go to this article to look for a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor.

I know you've already spent so much time to called for support. However, they have the tools to securely check into your account and investigate further the issue. So, I still recommend reaching out to our Technical Support Team. Also, I'll take note of your feedback to improve our service.

You can refer to this article for more details on setting up historical payroll: Add pay history to QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Please don't hesitate to come back if you have further clarification or additional information on your payroll concerns. I'll be around. Have a lovely day!
