Hello,
I'm looking for assistance on how to record W4 information properly into employee's payroll taxes.
To get to this section you go to:
Employees, Payroll Info, Taxes, Federal
We have an employee that filed his W4 out as such:
Under Step 3 (Claim Dependents)
"Multiply the number of qualifying children under age 16 by $2,000" - He wrote $2,000
"Multiple the number of other dependents by $500" - He wrote $500 (wife)
"Add the amounts above and enter the total here" - He wrote $2,500 total
How does this translate to filling out the dependents section in QB?
Thank you!!!
RE: How does this translate to filling out the [number of] dependents section in QB?
In short, it doesn't.
Since you're entering a 2023 W-4, pick "2020 and Later" as the W-4 type and then you'll see fields that match the current W-4:
So under the section that says Claim Dependents, I would put $2,500?
I was wondering the same thing. is that where you would put the 2500?
I am wondering the same thing. Did anyone receive an answer for this?
Did you ever find out about this answer, cause I can not find the information online?
Did anyone ever find out because I am needing to do the same for my employees
Did you ever find out?
@Rcbccarmichael It is as @BigRedConsulting alluded to. In the OP's case, they would put $2,500.00 in the Claim Dependents field. Well, really, they would enter $2,000.00. You don't claim your wife as a dependent, you just file as Married Joint.
Essentially, the W4 was changed from entering the number of dependents to entering the effect the dependents would have on your income tax return.
That is, $2,000.00 per kid under 16, $500.00 for every other dependent, all added together.
