Hello I am setting up my QB Payroll and it is asking for my arizona tax #. For AZ it is the exact same 9 digits as our federal EIN (example 86-1234567). however QB won't accept it as it says it has to be in this format 1234567 9 the eighth character has to be blank which doesn't work for a valid number. Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
Let me help and make sure we get you back on track., cheesenips.
To isolate this issue, we can perform some troubleshooting steps and check if there are any underlying browser issues.
We can start by accessing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in a private or incognito window and enter the state tax ID number form there. Use these keyboard shortcuts below to open one:
If you're able to put the state tax ID number when using a private window, then that's good. We can go back to your regular browsing window and clear it's cache. This process will remove outdated temporary internet files and optimize your browser performance.
You may also use other supported browser for the best and smooth experience when using QuickBooks Online.
Please let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button below. I'll be around if you need help. Have a great day!
Thank you but this doesn't fix it. The problem is how intuit has it coded. It will NOT allow anything that is 9 digits long. See screenshot
Yeah, that makes two of us.
It's hard to believe QuickBooks would have such a large problem on their platform.
Arizona's TIN has been the same as the EIN for years now.

Hello,
I have been experiencing the same issue described above concerning the fact that the AZ state tax ID number is the same number as the FEIN. Quickbooks will just not accept the number because it requires the state tax ID to be eight numbers. In Arizona, the state tax ID number is the SAME as the FEIN and is therefore NINE numbers. I have tried speaking with Customer Support as you suggested the other people with this problem do, and they have been completely unhelpful. The representative actually suggested I just input the Unemployment Insurance ID number in for the AZ state tax ID number, although these are assigned by two completely different departments within the state government.
Can someone please provide me with an actual solution to this?
QuickBooks Payroll follows the guidelines provided by the federal and state tax agencies,Tucson24.
I can also see that it's asking for an 8-digit tax id number when I tried it on my QBO account.
If you already verified with the state agency that the number should be 9 digit, I would recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support Team once again. They can take a closer look at this ad check if there are any other option to make sure you're able to enter the correct tax id in QBO.

Hi,
This is my first time having to pay AZ taxes (new employees in a different state), is it possible to efile and epay all payroll liabilities?
Thanks,
Erika
Good evening, @ErikaN.
Thanks for chiming in on this thread.
Yes, you're able to e-file and e-pay your taxes through QuickBooks Online for Arizona.
For future reference and details on how to do this, review this guide: E-File and E-Pay.
Feel free to come back if you have any trouble along the way. It's my priority that you get this set up successfully. Have a splendid day!
I just started this process and am having the same issue putting in the AZ state withholding account number.
Did you get a solution to this?
Let me chime in and provide some information that can help you with setting up AZ Account Number in QuickBooks Online, @ShoeBacca.
QuickBooks Payroll observes the guidelines provided by the federal and state tax agencies. I suggest to verified first with your state agency the format and correct set of numbers you need to use.
Otherwise, you can directly reach out to our Payroll Support Team. They have the necessary tools to take a closer look at your account and check if there are any other options to make sure you're able to enter the correct tax id in QBO.

This issue still exists. Anyone find a work around for this? I'm assuming I'll just need to manually process taxes instead of utilizing Quickbooks.
So, the format for the AZ account number in QBs is correct: 1234567 8 (7 numbers, space, last number)
You should receive a letter from the Department of Economic Security titled "Determination of Unemployment Insurance Liability" This letter took much longer than I anticipated (June 1st, almost 2 months from the time filled out the information online). It contains the proper Arizona Account Number you are looking for. (Side note: they hit our small business up with prepaid Unemployment Tax of nearly 2K July 19th. Not what I expected! i hope to see a partial refund at the end of the year.)
You've probably already fixed this, but Arizona's formatting doesn't allow for a space or dash in the number. While the federal number may be 12-3456789, to enter in the AZ form it needs to be "[removed]." The only other tax number required in Arizona is the Unemployment tax number, issued by DES, the Department of Economic Security. https://des.az.gov/
