Can I pay someone different hourly rates based on the role they have each day? Server some days, supervisor other days,

It's great to see you in the COmmunity, fatdaddyspizzabu.

Yes, you can pay your employee using different hourly rates based on the role they worked for that day. Let's add them in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and enter the correct name for each pay type.

Here's how:

  1. In your company, press the Payroll menu on the left panel and choose Employees.
  2. On the Payroll Center, click on the employee's name you're working on from the list.
  3. In the worker's profile, go to the Employee details tab and press the Pencil icon for Pay.
  4. Navigate to How much do you pay (worker's name)? section and click the Pencil icon to view more details.
  5. This will open a window that lists all types of wages.
  6. From the Pay type drop-down, pick Hourly and enter the amount in the Rate per hour field.
  7. In the Pay type section, tick the boxes you wish to use for the server and supervisor payroll item.
  8. Delete the current name entered in the box and type the right one. For example, supervisor or service.
  9. Then add the correct wage amount in the Rate per hour field.
  10. Click Save and Done.

When you create a paycheck, the newly added pay types will show in the Run Payroll screen.pr rate.png

Here's an article that provides more insights into this process: Pay an employee different hourly rates. It includes instructions on how to set up default hours.

Also, this resource provides an overview of how each pay type works in QBO. You'll also learn how it appears on your payroll forms: Supported pay types and deductions explained.

Stay in touch if you still need help with adding different pay types. I'm more than happy to assist further. Enjoy your weekend ahead.
