Can't align 1099 to not print in the red areas

I keep seeing explanations for QB Desktop, but what about for QB Online? There is now file menu to go to.

Can't align 1099 to not print in the red areas

Thanks for joining the thread, @BillL1. I'm here to help.

The process for setting up a contractor eligible for 1099-MISC and printing the form differs between QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO). If you need assistance setting up a contractor in QBO, you may refer to this guide for the complete process: Set up contractors and track them for 1099s. Nevertheless, here are general steps:

  1. Go to Expenses, then select Contractors.
  2. Select Add a contractor
  3. Enter your contractor’s info, or select the Email this contractor checkbox so they can fill it out.
  4. When you're done, select Add contractor.

However, if you mean troubleshooting printing 1099-MISC for the contractor you've set up in QBO, let me add further details. Print alignment issues in QBO are sometimes associated with web browser settings, causing your printer not to print your 1099 forms correctly. To resolve this, I recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. When none of the browsers fix the printing problem, you can work with your IT expert and perform these troubleshooting steps.

For Chrome:

  1. Go to Chrome and select the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner. Then select Settings.
  2. Select Privacy and security then Site settings.
  3. Select Additional content settings then PDF documents.
  4. Toggle Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome.
  5. Try to print your 1099s again.

For Firefox:

  1. Go to Firefox and select menu ≡, then Options.
  2. Select General.
  3. In the Applications section locate Portable Document Format (PDF).
  4. In the Action column select the dropdown and select your PDF viewer.
  5. Try to print your 1099s again.

Once you were able to download the PDF, right click the PDF and select Open with and choose Adobe from the dropdown list. Then, try printing your 1099s again.

As a future reference, I'm adding this article as a guide to create 1099 reports in QBO, which shows who needs 1099s, payment totals, and more.: Create 1099 reports in QuickBooks.

Let us know on the situation if you have further updates on setting up a contractor or printing a 1099 form in QBO. We'll do our best to assist. Take care.
