Welcome, @Moss Creek and thank you for coming to the QuickBooks Community for assistance. I have some insight on how to set up withholding for child support to pass along.
In order to accomplish this, go to "lists" at the top > Payroll Lists > Select "New" > The easy option will be the best for them to choose > and click on "New Garnishments"

Please keep me posted on your results with this here, the Community has you covered. Thanks again, I'll be standing by for your response.
@SterlingD, i have a slightly different question as it relates to Child Support. I'm self-employed (S-corp) and not running payroll. Just paying and itemizing business expense v. personal. For child support, should I create a liability account only dedicated to this payment?
You could possibly book as a distribution (since you aren't yet taking a payroll) and send check to the child support division relevant in your state, the only deal on this is payroll is required of an S-Corp. You need to talk to your accountant about this.
