Convert qb 2016 file for online use

Hi there, nicole-nicolehar.

Let's make sure to convert your QuickBooks Desktop 2016 file to QuickBooks Online.

Since QuickBooks 2016 file is an old file, we can use the QuickBooks Desktop file restoration tool to move your data into the online system.

First, let's open the online tool. Choose the QuickBooks version you're using.

After we open the link above, we'll have to click the Get Started button and sign in with your Intuit Account.

Then, let's upload your company file by following the steps below.

  1. Click the file icon on the top bar and then Temporary Files.
  2. Select Upload Files. Then, browse the company file (.QBW) you want to move.
  3. Close the pop-up once your company file is uploaded.
  4. Select Show uploaded file to see your uploaded company file.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to guide you through the move to QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, if you don't have access to your company file, we can install and use our trial version of QuickBooks 2021. Then, we can proceed with the details in Step 2: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to the QuickBooks Online section. Visit this article for further guidance: Learn how to import your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online.

I'd also like to provide information about QuickBooks Self-Employed. Since this product is different from other types of QuickBooks products, we're unable to move your file to QBSE. We can sign up for a new one instead.

We can visit these articles to gather more tips and information about the features and data we can move and learn how you can manage your QBO:

Convert qb 2016 file for online use

Hi:

Will this solution also work with QuickBooks Simple Start? I have a QB2016 file I received from someone else and I want to buy QuickBooks. Will QuickBooks Simple Start be able to import this file?

Yes, the online tool works with QuickBooks Online (QBO) Simple Start when importing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file, PercivalB. Allow me to add the updated process to ensure you can seamlessly move your data.

You can utilize the online tool if you have no access to QBDT and need to move your QBDT file to QBO. To begin with, let's open the online tool so you can upload your data, which can only be done one file at a time.

Here's how:

  1. Choose the appropriate QuickBooks version for your existing data: QuickBooks Pro/Premier or QuickBooks Enterprise.
  2. Pick Get Started and sign in using your Intuit Account.

After that, you can proceed to these steps to upload your company file:

  1. Click Select File, then locate the supported QBDT file you want to transfer.
  2. To upload the file, select Open. You can also drag and drop the file to import it.
  3. We'll update your file automatically to the latest QBDT version once you finish uploading it. Then, an option to move to QBO will appear.
  4. Ensure to follow the on-screen instructions carefully to complete the process.
