data migration repair

I just migrated from QB Destop to QBO Advanced. Half of my employees were listed as "to be updated'.

Most of their info was fine, some missing - which I've corrected - not a big deal.

However, the other half came over as VENDORS.

Is there a way to change them to EMPLOYEES??  The checks for these are there, but (of course) listed under them under vendors.

It sounds like you're encountering some discrepancies between your QuickBooks Online (QBO) records for employees, vendors, and contractors in the QuickBooks Online version. Let me help you fix this, bob.

Thank you for providing insight into your situation, which will help me understand the issue better and determine the appropriate fixes to resolve it. Your feedback is valuable in finding the best solutions moving forward.

Since you mentioned that all employees show up on the Employee Contact report, this indicates that they are indeed recognized as employees within the system. Normally, we can add worker, customer, contractors, one keystroke different from each other.

If you're still unable to locate, add, change employee information, or if you suspect a technical issue with your QuickBooks Online account, consider reaching out to QuickBooks Online Payroll support for further assistance. They may be able to investigate them and provide guidance on resolving it.

Here's How:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

As for your employee Social Security number in QuickBooks Online, you can verify the correct (SSN) for the employee. You can use the Social Security Number Verification Service to ensure accuracy.

Furthermore, you can also verify that your payroll settings are configured correctly in QuickBooks Online. Ensure that the employees are set up properly for payroll processing, including tax withholding information, payment methods, etc.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve any discrepancies in your QuickBooks Online records for employees, vendors, and contractors. Have a great day ahead.

Hi there, @bobbiemer.

Thanks for reaching out. I hope you're having a great day so far.

In regards to the "to be updated" message you're seeing, would you mind sharing a screenshot of it? This way, I can get a better understanding of what's going on with those employees after the migration.

As for your employees who transferred over as vendors, I'm including some steps below to help change them back to employees.

Here's how:

  1. Set up a new Employee name (QuickBooks Online doesn't allow duplicate names):
    1. Go to Payroll and select Employees.
      • In the top right of the page, click on Add an Employee.
    2. In the Full Name field, choose a name one keystroke different from the Vendor name (such as John J. Doe if the Vendor name was John Doe, for example).
    3. Enter the rest of the contact information.
    4. Hit Save.
      • If no transactions are attached to the Vendor name, you can delete the Vendor. Then, if needed, edit the Employee name.

That should do the trick. Here are some help guides that provide more information about data migrations from QuickBooks Desktop to Online:

Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Have a good one!

Tori, thanks for the prompt response.  That's what I anticipated.

Actually, I'm thinking that perhaps I'm mis-seeing things.

Only two of the 'missing' employees are listed in the vendors.  I changed their name (would prefer payroll to have the correct name), saved it, and then tried to create a 'new employee'. Didn't work.

I tried to leave of the middle initial off when creating the new 'employee' - QBO wouldn't accept it.

I looked at the vendors again, contractors, and customers and other than the two I had found (and renamed), did not find any of them. On the two I renamed, I looked at their 'payments' and they were not for payroll, but other payments,  These had 1st and last names, where the payroll employees had 1st, middle initial & last.

That got me wondering... I ran a Employee Contact report, and ALL of my employees show up on it.

I'm hoping someone has a clue for what I should look at next.

Thanks!!

I've also tried adding the 'new employee' with just the first initial & last name.

That looked like it was going to work, until I tried to save.

Received an error message related to soc sec no [ error attached ]
