There are two ways to record cash advances in QuickBooks Online Payroll. One is by handwriting them a check, while the other is by creating a paycheck with a deduction item for cash advance repayment.
If you simply record this as a check, this won't be included in your paycheck. That's why it won't show up once you preview the paycheck.
If you set up a payroll item for this, ensure that the total owed amount isn't reached in the Annual maximum field. To check, let's review the payroll item to know if this causes the issue. Let me show you how:

I got together wih QB support, and the issue was the amount I had entered as the annual maximum for advances wasn't high enough. So...there's that! I don't always get the answer I want from support, but I did this time!
