I was able to exort prior tax payments in an .iif form, which I imported into my QB 2019 Mac Desktop app. However when I tried to do the same for prior payroll, there was no export options other than .pdf & excel files. Is there a place I can get .iff or file to import into my desktop app? Thanks again!
Thanks for getting back to us, @chris323. As additional insights, you'll need to manually export your file from QBO so you can import them to your QBDT for Mac.
Before importing, I suggest you create a backup of your company file for future use. Then, follow these steps below:
You can check this link for more insights about exporting, importing, and editing II files in QB Mac.
I've also added this article to learn more about IIF files in QuickBooks Desktop: IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers.
Let me know how it goes for you. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Take care always.
Wait, why can't I just export an .iif file? Seems a bit complex. There used to be a way, in the previous version before you changed to this new app. Is that simple option gone?

Just following up on exporting .iif payroll payments to my desktop version. I can export the tax payments in .iif form, but not the payroll. This function was available prior to the latest big software updated. Is this being worked on or is it a push for everyone to go online?
Hello, chris323.
I can see how convenient for you to export files in IIF format. I can share additional insight about this.
Currently, the option to export prior payroll to the IIF file is unavailable. Our new QuickBooks Online Payroll is still under ongoing development, and we'll update the information as soon as it becomes available.
As a workaround, you can export it to Excel. Then, you can look for a third-party application or visit our Desktop Apps website to find a file converter tool. Alternatively, you can manually build an IIF file and import it into your QuickBooks. For further details, check out the following articles:
In addition, I've included this article in case you need to access reports in the future. This contains the description of each report and the information you can get: Run payroll reports.
Don't hesitate to leave a comment on this thread if you have additional questions about exporting or importing a file. We're always here to help you.
Hello!
Exporting IIF Files: Go to Reports } Paycheck History } Edit Paychecks (Upper Right) } Set Date Range } Select Export Status } Select Not Exported } Select Run Report (Green Tab) } Select Checks you want to Export } Select Export to Accounting.
Make sure in the account settings the exporting option is set to export IIF. Files to Windows or Mac, depending on your needs.
I hope this help because I was told this was not possible and going back and forward I found the way to do it.
This was only possible with my clients accounts not with the main account (Accountant), I am still trying to figure if it's possible to do it as well. I hate this version, I was doing so well with Intuit Online Payroll.
Have a good day!
