How do I restart the state payroll tax setup because QB and my state revenue agency are telling me two different things and no one at QB can help?

I've been calling QB for 2 months trying to get my state witholding tax setup for auto filing and they keep telling me different things. I've called my state revenue agency and they've told me that QB hasn't requested or sent anything to them to request 3rd part access. It keeps going back and forth between QB and my state and I am told different dates by QB to call back. Those dates keep passing with no result. I am stuck in limbo with QB's terrible customer service.

Hello there, csilverman.

This isn't the kind of service I want you to experience with the support while managing state payroll tax setup. I can see how important it is to organize your auto-filing in QuickBooks. I'll go over different steps to ensure you can manage this efficiently.

If you mean to change the configuration of your state withholding tax, you can go to the State tax section. You'll then have the option to make any changes from there.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Payroll Settings.
  2. From the [State] tax section, click the pencil ✎.
  3. Go to the Withholding section.
  4. Enter the info applicable to the taxes you are required to pay.
  5. Click Save.

However, if you're referring to deleting or removing previously recorded state tax information in QuickBooks, you're currently unable to perform this within QuickBooks. I can see that you've already reached our QuickBooks Payroll Support, but I still recommend contacting them again. They're the best support group for such inquiries as they can request account information. This allows them to restart the state payroll tax setup and enter the required information on your behalf.

In case you need different payroll reports to view employee info, wages, taxes, and deductions, you can read this article: Run payroll reports.

Please know that you can add a comment below if you have any other concerns or additional questions about managing payroll taxes in QBO. I'm always here to help you further, csilverman. Take care!

How do I restart the state payroll tax setup because QB and my state revenue agency are telling me two different things and no one at QB can help?

I don't need to edit the setup for the state tax. It's never been setup in the first place since I joined QB payroll! The setting are correct. The tax ID #s are correct. But that's as far as I've gotten. QB hasn't reached out to MN Revenue to request 3rd party access and I want to restart the setup process.

QB support is very not helpful. I keep getting told different dates in the future for when MN Revenue is supposed to respond to their request. When I call back after that date, I am told a new date for when my state is supposed to respond. It keeps going on and on. When I spoke to MN Revenue, they said that they've received NO request for 3rd party access. QB support has no 2nd level tier of support and I am left in limbo. When request to speak to a supervisor, all the supervisor can do is report feedback and no further help for my issue. The 1st tier of QB support has been absolutely no help to get my issue resolved no matter how many times I call back.

Thanks for following up with the Community, csilverman-shaar. I appreciate your detailed information.

Since the tax setup has to do with specifics of your account, I'd recommend continuing to get in touch with our Customer Care team to discuss this topic further. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and discuss the status of the request they've been discussing with you.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.

  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

If there's any questions, I'm just a post away. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

How do I restart the state payroll tax setup because QB and my state revenue agency are telling me two different things and no one at QB can help?

Please re-read my post. I HAVE contacted QB support multiple times. I don't need help on how to contact them. I've called them probably close to a dozen times to try and get this resolved. Your response is indicative of QB support. They give you info that they don't think you know about when, in fact, I already know it. They send me information on unemployment insurance setup when I need to get MN State witholding tax setup. Two different things. They tell me that it will be a few more days for MN Revenue to respond but MN Revenue tells me they have never been contacted. QB support is NOT helpful for my situation yet I keep being told to contact them to help resolve my issue. There is only 1 level of support with no way to get your issue escalated past the minimum wage phone answerers that are usually reading scripts. When they can't help, there's no where else to go! I'm hoping this post will give feedback to QB support and also help my particular case. I'll keep calling them but why will the next call be more helpful than the last 12?

How do I restart the state payroll tax setup because QB and my state revenue agency are telling me two different things and no one at QB can help?

It's these canned answers that are of no help. No one at QB has let me know how to escalate a problem that has yet to be solved in almost 2 months. It's like continuously beating your head against the wall expecting different results. I know how to access support so please stop posting how to do that. Stop re-posting pre-made responses and please give me actual help or let me know who can contact me to get this problem resolved. QB support is communicating with different departments. Why can't I speak to any of those specific departments?

I'm still waiting for an answer on how to restart payroll tax setup. QB support can't do that. So who can?
