Hi Alcaeus—
I'm a sole proprietor freelancer running Simple Start QuickBooks for small business online. I received a notice via email that one of my clients (not a vendor) posted a 1099 to my Intuit/quickbooks account. Clicking the "View your1099" button takes me to a trial version set-up screen for QB Sole Proprietor. I went ahead and set up a trial version account but nowhere does it show me access to the 1099. I've already been through online chat support, but it was useless. Nothing they suggested I do got around the problem: Since Intuit has me as a subscriber to Simple Start QB for small business it doesn't have a way to also acknowledge me as a recipient of 1099s from clients. I can't figure how to get in and access a 1099 sent to me with QB.
I'll attach a screen shot of the email I got.
I am a sole proprietor free-lancer running Simple Start QB online. I have clients who send me 1099s. I got an email saying one was posted to me account with Quickbooks. I'll attache a screen shot. When I click on "View your 1099" it goes to QB Sole Proprietor trial account setup page. I did that, but there is nowhere to access the 1099. It appears that since Intuit has me in the system with an account for regular QuickBooks, it can't accommodate me also receiving 1099s as a freelancer. How can I get around this and access 1099s clients send me through QB?

i have the exact same issue. even though i already have a quickbooks online account (and pay a ton of money for the account), when my clients sent me 1099s i got the exact same email .... and then it tried to sign me up as ANOTHER account, no matter what I did to try to let them know I already had an account. Ultimately it had me signup for a "quickbooks self employed" account (which is very much a misnomer to describe our situation as a Partnership LLC). Super frustratingly - now when I log into my account i have this second screen show up which lists two (2) accounts and I need to click the second one as the first is a fake/faux account. No matter how much I try and research this, there's no way to "close" this second (false account).
To add insult to injury, the 1099s we were emailed about never even posted to the 'self-employed' QB account. They never were even in there. SO frustrating!!
I wouldn't like you to be in that kind of conclusion, loudcanvas.
Please consider contacting our specialist to help you further with this. They can review things and be able to investigate this matter.I am directing you to them since there are things that we'll need to figure out on this issue. We will be able to do it in a secure environment.
Here are the steps on how to get in touch with them:
Know that the community is always here anytime you have more something to ask about 1099 in QuickBooks.
New year, same situation and Quickbooks support takes hours to get simple answers. If there were any major competitors to Quickbooks, I'd switch in a heartbeat. Lucky for QBO, my CPA and bookkeeper are loyal to them....
