I understand you're having trouble updating your payroll bank account because of the error message about pending tax payments, even if you don't have one. I have checked in our record that there is an ongoing investigation about this error. Our engineers are now working to find a resolution for this.

 

 Meanwhile, I recommend contacting our Payroll support to add you to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive notifications for updates about this issue.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:

  • Get a callback from the next available expert.

Plus, Essentials and Simple Start support are available from Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM PT. While for the Advanced, reach out to them any time, any day.

I have been trying for a week to change my bank account.  I have talked to three different QB experts on the phone,.    I currently show a pending tax payment but I actually paid it manually.   I can't change the taxpayment status to "paid" because the actions are  greyed out.

 

I am not getting the error message about not being able to change bank amount due to a pending tax payment.  No I am not!!! 

 

After reading this thread I wonder if i was not able to change and verify my new bank account due to a pending 941 tax due?     But none of the three QB experts said anything about this.

I can share some tips on how you can change your bank account.

 

Take note that you'll be unable to update the banking information of your payroll account if you have pending tax payments. Since you've already processed the tax payment, I'd recommend waiting until the IRS or receiving agency has accepted the payment.

 

Additionally, you'll receive an email that includes details of the scheduled payment date as well as a confirmation number sent to us by the IRS. 

 

Once you're ready, follow the steps in this article to be guided in changing your company's bank account for payroll: Change your payroll bank account.

Thanks for the response, Ethel. Unfortunately I do not have much more time to wait for engineering to find the solution, as I need to close the old bank account to avoid ongoing fees. This probably means I will have to change my accounting software... Would love to not have to do that if this issue can be escalated within the next few days.

We are experiencing the same issue.  I spent 3 hours on Chat with a very knowledgeable intuit support staff member and we were unable to get the new bank account entered.  QBs attempted to deposit two small amounts into my new bank account and I received an email that it failed.  Interestingly, the day before, I was setting the new bank account up in PayPal and they made the two micro-deposits without issue.   Once QBs tried to set up the account, it get requesting I verify the micro-deposits, even though the email I received (and the notification when I tried to verify using bogus numbers) said the micro-deposits had failed.  The Intuit repo took remote control of my computer and spent over an hour trying to fix the account to no avail.  He finally stated it was likely a bug in the software.  Ugh!  We have payroll pending, I can not move forward with the new account nor can I go back to the old bank account.  We are reaching out to a payroll service to help us get through this payroll and if they are any good, will dump Intuit and move to a new service.  Payroll is too important to be putting out software with bugs (Quickbooks 2020 desktop -- all updates taken)

I'm having this exact same issue and I've had it, I'm so mad at how they have absolutely no work around to be able to help their customers who pay them a lot of money!  I've been on support via chat and phone for months now trying to get this changed.  We are now having to wire funds to the old bank account and incurring wire transfer fees just to be able to run payroll every other week.  I've been told this is a known issue and they are working on it, but this has been going on for months for me and from this message it has been even longer than mine has been since end of July 2022.  I went to this QB Support Page and followed the manual instructions only to receive a response via email saying they are unable to update my account manually.  This is complete insanity, how is it that you have instructions of how to do it manually that I follow only to be told NOPE, we can't help you.  Someone at Quickbooks PLEASE  update our payroll bank account!!!

I checked our back end and saw that the investigation has been closed as resolved. Since you're still experiencing this error, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. That way, one of our agents can review your account in a secure environment and send this back to our Engineering Team for further investigation.

I am also having this issue. After weeks now I have been unable to change my bank account in QuickBooks Payroll due to “possible pending direct deposits or tax payments”. Talked to several representative and numerous calls for an hour or with no outcome. I have even filled out the so called “Change Bank ” form that a QuickBooks representatives sent me with only to receive an email a few hours later stating that the change cannot be made via the document they sent me to fill out??? They only way to change the bank would be for me to do so in QuickBooks….


It’s looking like I will need to find another software because I do not see a resolution in the near future. 

QuickBooks states that their engineering team has been working on it since February 8, 2023. It is now march 4, 2023 and still no updated on when I will be and to pay my employees with direct deposit and with the new Bank Account.

If you aren't added yet to the list of affected companies, I recommend contacting our support team once more. This way, you’ll get updates once the resolution is rolled out.


Here’s how:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab, then click Contact Us.
  4. Type in “Unable to change my bank account in QuickBooks Payroll due to possible pending direct deposits or tax payments” in the field.
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. Click the Chat or Callback option.

I can provide some information about updating the bank account details for your payroll, rbh1217.

 

The investigation about changing the bank account for your payroll is still ongoing. In the meantime, I advise getting in touch with our customer support team to be added to the list of affected users and get an email alert when the problem is fixed.

 

You can reach them by going to the Help icon at the top right of the account. Then, let them add you to Investigation No. 86274.

 

Follow the steps below: 

 

  1. Go to the Help icon to connect to a live support agent. 
  2. Provide us with some information about your concern.
  3. Select the Contact Us button and provide some details about this concern, then on the Let's Talk button. 
  4. You'll now be provided options on how to connect to our Customer Support.

I am also having this same issue and getting the run around from Quickbooks. Has anyone found a solution? This seems crazy that a company as large as this cannot fix something as important to a business as payroll.

We are having the same issue. We had fraud on our old account and have only a few days left before the bank shuts it down. QB is not letting us switch accounts. I have been trying for weeks.

 

I honestly cannot believe this is legal. We are paying for services, and QB is not delivering and is causing harm.

We were told we are now added to two "ongoing investigations" Inv-86274 and Inv-86850 and that the engineering team has "no turnaround timeline available" for this issue. This is definitely not what you would expect from a company as large as this and certainly not involving something as important as paying your employees. We are stuck with processing payroll and then manually writing out over 60 checks from the correct account until they find a resolution to updating our direct deposit account. If they don't find a fix soon we will have to find another software and payroll service.

Cannot update my bank account for direct deposit payroll.  12 weeks have passed, wasted time on multiple chat and calls.  QB Desktop disabled edit feature for this info, which is probably due to the problems shared in this string (but the account rep at QB does not know why it's disabled).  Opened TWO case #'s, completed the Intuit "form" each time, both attempts were closed/resolved incorrectly, and the micro deposits never occurred.  From the string of details above, appears to be a "bug" that QB is not fixing yet continues to charge every month/year and increasing amount for a product with which we cannot make a simple change.  Calling in only restarts the entire process, and the account rep only wants to repeat the exact same process to get a different outcome!  One of them even asked me where I got the "form"....unacceptable all the way around!!!  The only advice on this string is to call back...that will do nothing because obviously notes are not being retained and/or are being ignored!!!

THIS COMPANY AND PRODUCT IS A JOKE. We have dealing with this issue for over a month now! There was no problem updating the bank account where THEY TAKE THEIR FEE EACH MONTH but I can't pay my employees!! And they keep saying "we will add you to the investigation". What good does that do me. Support is a joke, "Supervisors" are a joke.

As a workaround, you can create a regular check for your employees for their current pay period. While we cannot provide the exact turnaround time when this issue will be fixed, I assure you that all the updates will be sent via the email address we have on file. Therefore, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support to add you to the list of affected users. I understand you already contacted them, but they are the appropriate team that has the tool to check your account.  To do so:

 

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter Unable to update my payroll bank account information in the What can we help you with? text area.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Click Start a chat or Have us call you to connect with our team online.
