I entered in prior payroll data in the employee screen. But I have discovered that the historical YTD payroll data has been lost. How do I re-input the data?

Welcome back to the Community, @donald-johnston1.

If the historical YTD payroll data has been lost when you entered in prior payroll data in the employee screen, internet files may be interrupting the connection.

In that case, I recommend using a private browser. Private browsing mode prevents internet files that make QuickBooks Online lost data.

Open a supported browser, and follow the keyboard shortcut:

Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N

Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P

Safari: Command + Option + P

If this works, it means that you need to clear your browser's cache so the system can start fresh.

Otherwise, you can switch to another supported browser.

For more details on how to enter your historical payroll data and show how to set prior payrolls, you can refer to this article: Set up prior payroll. It includes the dos and don'ts of entering prior payrolls.

Also, if you were using QuickBooks Desktop Payroll and converted it to QuickBooks Online, you can check this article: What to do after converting from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.

I have gone into Google Chrome and then Incognito and cleared my cache for all time. So, everything's cleared.

Regarding set up payroll, technical support and I have already gone through the steps to install and set up payroll (in Payroll Premium), including inputting payroll data (totals only) from each pay date and then inputting employees. I cannot go back to the Get Started step and start all over again. In addition, things have already been set up for processing payroll taxes.

Right now, I tried to just re-enter the year-to-date pay for each employee. I then ran the Payroll Summary by Employee Report and nothing came up. It was a blank report with just the headings. It looks like for some reason that the historical payroll data by pay date either was lost or is in hiding in the system.

What's next?

I appreciate all the steps you've tried, donald-johnston1.

I've checked if there are similar reported issues about YTD not showing on reports and found out that there is an open investigation to this one. This has been worked with our engineers to get this fixed for you. I would recommend contacting our Customer Care Support so you'll be added to the lists of affected users. An email notification will be sent once an update is available.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu in the upper-right hand corner.
  2. Click Contact Us
  3. Let them know that you need help with YTD report.
  4. Click Let's talk, then select Start a chat or Get a callback.

Your patience and understanding are much appreciated while we're working for a fix.

Unfortunately, technical support is only available Monday-Friday, either by phone call or chat. The call back and the chat icons are currently grayed out so that I cannot leave a message.
