It's possible to access a payroll detail report for periods within a two-year range in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @troy6450. I'm here to guide you how.
There are a variety of payroll reports in QBO that lets you get a closer look at your business's finances and employee records. QuickBooks can provide up to two years worth of payroll data when you pull up the Payroll Details report. You just need to set or customize the report's date range.
The Payroll Details report gives you detailed info on your employee's payroll. That includes the paychecks you've created, their amount, taxes, and deductions. To pull it up, let's visit the Reports menu's Standard tab. Here's how:

Is there a way to access and view this information for periods greater than 2 years? If it's not possible, then why?
Allow me to share a few information on why there's a limitation in accessing payroll reports, troy6450.
In QuickBooks Online version, your data will be stored in the cloud so that it can be accessed by multiple users anytime and anywhere.
Currently, there's a certain period that you can view for Payroll Details reports in your QBO account due to the size of your report that appears too large once you saved it in the cloud. You'll want to export them so you'll have a copy when you need some information on the previous years. To export reports, you can follow the steps below.
Please check this article in case you want to export non-posting transactions and attachments: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.
You can also refer to more articles that you can read by selecting QuickBooks Online as a product: QBO Payroll Help Articles.

Thank you for the reply. I understand your reply, but it's simply not acceptable. This information should be made availability indefinitely. As it relates to other payroll functions such as W2's and 941's. W2's and 941's type information is archived and stored on the QBO cloud. The Detailed Payroll Reports should be also. The root data is stored as part of the check register transaction, there is no reason the report cant be regenerated at any time.
