Input incorrect pay period, need to change it, how do I do this?

For my last pay period I input the incorrect pay period with the correct pay date. Now when I go to input payroll for this pay period, QB's won't let me because I already used it. How do I change a past period to the correct one?

Input incorrect pay period, need to change it, how do I do this?

Welcome to Community, jean60.

I'm here to make sure you'll be able to change the pay period in QuickBooks Online.

You can update the pay schedule in the Payroll Settings.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon. Then select Payroll Settings.
  2. Select Pay Schedules in the Payroll and Services section.
  3. Select Edit next to the pay schedule you want to update or delete.
  4. Update the pay schedule information.

Here's an article about this process for more details: Set Up And Manage Payroll Schedules

Just in case you want to print paychecks with QuickBooks Online Payroll and Intuit Online Payroll, see this article.

I'll get right back to this thread if you need more help with processing payroll. I'd be glad to help. Have a great day.

@LeizylM she wanted to correct the pay period of her last payroll so her current payroll will also have the right period. How to do that?

To modify the paycheck date, I recommend following the steps outlined below.

  1. On the left pane, select the Payroll menu and click Employees.
  2. Select Run Payroll, then click Preview Payroll.
  3. On the Preview Payroll page, select the Back button.
  4. At the top of the screen, change the paycheck date. Select the Preview Payroll button to complete the check.
  5. Tap Submit payroll.

If the payroll has been processed, I recommend you contact our Support Team. They have the tools to further help you with this matter.

Please keep in mind that QuickBooks Online has a set pay period that is determined by your setup. After you manually change the pay date, it will revert to the previous pay period's schedule.

Appreciate the update, @my-answer-is-nonsense. I'll share details about correcting a payroll's pay period.

Currently, the option to change a pay period in a payroll already submitted and processed is not available. Now to resolve this, let's consider the type of payroll created in the first place.

If the paycheck in question is created via the paper check method, we'll have to delete the earliest paycheck created up until the payroll in question and recreate them to change the incorrect pay period. Use the following links below to learn more:

However, if the payroll created is a direct deposit paycheck, you'll have to contact our Payroll Care Team. From there, one of our specialists has the tools needed to fix the pay period in every created paycheck.

I want to include that reaching out to our Customer Care Support is best during business hours from 6 AM-6 PM PT Mondays-Fridays. Use this article to learn more: QuickBooks Online Payroll Support.

You may also read this reference mode of payment to use and how to customize it when needed: Save time with QuickBooks Printable Checks.

Don't hesitate to post again here if you have other questions or concerns other than correcting your employee's payroll details. I'm always around and ready to help. Stay safe and take care always!

Alright; we'll call if it was processed via direct deposit, but this part bothers me:

You seem unsure which payroll we’re talking about. we’re talking the previous payroll, and if we delete it, what's gonna happen to our records? I guess you meant recreate the paychecks.

Hello there, my-answer-is-. Thanks for your prompt response.

Yes, you're correct. My peer meant to recreate your payroll with the right pay period if you have submitted payroll via the paper check method. In this manner, you'll have to remove the earliest paycheck created until you get into the payroll in question to correct the pay period. Furthermore, you'd be able to run payroll for a specific pay period and ensure your payroll transactions are recorded properly.

On the other hand, since you haven't mentioned if the payroll is processed via paper check or direct deposit, my colleague has given you two scenarios. This way, it will be easier to manage and follow the recommendation.

Once all is good, you may run payroll reports to see if the taxes and employee contributions are showing correctly.

Please let me know if you have additional questions about making payroll corrections. I'm always delighted to help. Have a good day.

@Jovychris_A thanks, it took us 3 reps to get a complete answer.

I always wonder. Intuit said in 2019 or 2020 that one of the reasons of the price increase was to improve the quality of your support, but I feel disappointed to see answers like this. This is not what we paid for.

- Can we please get someone to look into this. Quickbooks Online has been running for a few years now. and this is absolutely ridiculous that you can't simply change a pay period when the payroll is already submitted and processed. This feature can be done on Quickbooks desktop.

Please get someone to look into this right away. by deleting a payroll and reinputting all the information is a hassle, and payroll is not an easy task

Thank you

Input incorrect pay period, need to change it, how do I do this?

Greetings!

Let me share some information about your concern about changing a pay period when the payroll is already submitted and processed in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

I understand that you are looking to change a pay period in a payroll that has already been submitted and processed. Unfortunately, this option is not available. However, we can resolve this issue by identifying the type of payroll that was created initially.

If you have submitted payroll via the paper check method and need to recreate it with the right pay period, you can follow these steps. First, remove the earliest paycheck created until you get to the payroll period in question. Then, you can run payroll for the specific pay period and ensure that all payroll transactions are recorded accurately. This will help you to correct any errors and ensure that your payroll is processed correctly.

Here are some articles you can check to learn when and how to fix an employee's paycheck and create and run your payroll.

Moreover, if the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Support. Use this article to learn more: QuickBooks Online Payroll Support.

I've collated this article that will guide you on how to add deductions your employee needs to pay each payday in QuickBooks Online Payroll and QuickBooks Desktop Payroll: Set up, change, or delete employee-paid payroll deduction.

Feel free to reach out to me if you need help correcting a pay period entry in QuickBooks. You can do so by leaving a comment below. I'm always available to assist you.
