I'm a new customer of Quickbooks Online Payroll, and have been struggling with the state setup. I am paying payroll in Iowa, which earlier this year did a big re-vamp of their online tax payments system. Previously they had a system called eFile, with its own account numbers and authentication system. Now it is a system called GovConnect Iowa.
QBOP is asking for two things to setup the state payroll taxes: Employer Account Number and Business eFile Number. From what I can tell from the IDR website and talking to them on the phone, neither of those things exist anymore. All payroll payments must be made through the new GovConnect system as of February 4th. Is there any way to setup QBOP to integrate with this? I've read through all the tax compliance info I can find for QuickBooks, and it all just references the old system.
Thanks,
-Nate
Hi there, @nlgordon. Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I can help you record your tax payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
We are aware of this situation and we are still communicating with the State of Iowa agency to ensure that we comply with the new tax system before releasing the update. You can still run payroll of your employees.
For now, after you've run payroll you can get a report for the payroll taxes, then manually pay the state taxes outside QuickBooks. After that, record your payment in our program. Ensure that the auto tax payments and form filing status is turned off.
Here's how:
Once done, you can follow the steps in this article to record the payment: Recording prior tax payments.
We also recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to verify your account and help you further with the process.
To contact them:
You may contact them within the support hours to get assisted right away.
For more information about Iowa payroll tax regulations, you can check out this article: Payroll Tax Compliance.
I'll be around if you have any questions with the steps I've provide about turning off the autopayment for taxes. Take care always.
Good morning - we have multiple clients with this same issue. What is the status of QBO addressing and updating the product to allow for payment of tax and filing of forms with GovConnect Iowa? The state moved to this new system over a year ago now.
Thanks,
Dave
