Is there any way to turn OFF Notifications and Recommendations? I should NOT have to turn this stuff off EVERYDAY!

Hello, @Jarm.

I can share with you some information about the notifications/recommendations in QuickBooks.

The pop-ups are designed to guide and suggest you on how to improve your QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience. The only way to stop these notifications is to manually close it by clicking the or No, thanks button.

I understand how seamless it would be to turn off these recommendations from your account. Rest assured our engineers never stop to enhance QuickBooks and deliver the best experiences for all QuickBooks users. To stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and updates, feel free to check out our blog. Here's the link: The QuickBooks Blog.

Once done, you can as well read the topics from our help articles as your references in the future.

I want you to know that I'm always here to help if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. Just add a comment below. Have a good day!

I understand “why” QBO puts these notifications and recommendations on my screen. However, I shouldn’t have to hit the “x” to close them out EVERYDAY. Please accept my decision the first time, that I am not interested in it. It’s almost like QBO hopes I will change my mind after the 98th time closing the same box and reading the SAME notifications.

...thereby annoying thousands of paying customers thousands of times, every time, the customer gets a little more irritated with the user experience. QBO's marketing department should realize that there is a high cost to forcing these repeated and annoying notifications upon users. It is easily fixed by simply allowing users to opt out.

I AGREE!! I get a pop up EVERY TIME I LOG IN ... a payroll "recommended for you". I don't need payroll services. I have said NO THANKS every day for weeks. ANNOYING!

Well it seems as though QB just don't listen - I'm constantly getting pop ups to activate go cardless every few clicks of using QB

It's really starting to irritate me, I've unchecked all notification tick boxes/marketing preferences I can find, blocked whatever I can but they still appear, the reappear after a few clicks even though I've closed/pressed the red cross prior

I pay for QB so shouldn't be bombarded by ads I don't want

I will look for alternative software if you don't sort it out

For the love. Now there is a pop up in the invoice tab for EVERY darn invoice. REALLY? Do toddlers run QBO? When I tell my kid no, it means "NO". QBO take a hint. Don't spam me on a product I pay for.

I think that I may have a solution!!!!

  1. Go to the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
    Select the General menu.
    Choose the My Preferences tab.
Check the Turn off pop-up messages for products and services box.
    Click OK.

I just googled it! QuickBooks Support had the answer all along. They are just paid to promote, so why would they explicitly tell you how to shut them out?

Nope, all pop ups and all reminders are checked in the OFF positions and I still get the pop up reminders. They only started about a month ago.

That's for Quickbooks Desktop, not Online.

I have about had it with Mint. I tried, really tried to make due with this sub-standard, poorly designed, waste of time.

This hodge-podge, semi-functional, counter-intuitive hunk of junk has become beyond annoying.

The endless daily notifications are annoying and nearly impossible to squelch. Just trying clearing those crappy flags - you’ll eventually give up.

I am left with no alternative but to delete this sub-par, non-UI claptrap.

This could have (and should have) been useful. But ohhhh no / some idiot designed ridiculous notifications and marketing BS so tightly into the app that it cannot be bypassed.

Your UI/UX sucks. You should be ashamed. Hire some decent designers or buy your app from some other developer. Save your duct tape for other DIY projects.

RE: QBO

I am so sick of having to "X" out of each notification on my screen in order to have full use of my screen area.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop showing the same notification if I have already repeatedly "X-ed" out of it.

Also the items that show up under the actual Notifications bell should only appear ONCE.  I no longer look to see if there is anything new when the bell get s a red dot because there is so much garbage that keeps reappearing.  It defeats the entire purpose of the red alert dot.

There should at least be an option to opt out of these "notifications" (really more like ads for stuff I don't want/need). There seems to be an option for Desktop version, why not QBO also?

Thanks for joining this thread, Kelly_Ann.

I can certainly understand how an ability to turn off notifications could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

This doesn't make me feel like QB values my time.  I'm also pessimistic about the canned response.  The pop-ups are sales.  IMO, they function exactly as QB intends.   We're supposed to trust QB with our sensitive financial information and rely upon their accounting expertise and programming skills, but they can't stop a refused pop-up from re-occurring?

I want to add my voice to those already shouting: PLEASE ALLOW US TO TURN OFF POP UPS, NOTIFICATIONS, SALES PROMPTS, AND ANY OTHER FUNCTIONS THAT WE DO NOT INTEND TO USE!  THERE SHOULD BE A LIST IN PREFERENCES TO CHOOSE ALL THE ACCOUNTING FUNCTIONS THAT YOU ARE NEEDING, AND TURN THE OTHERS OFF.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! HEAR US!  WE ARE LEGION!

The relentless notifications and pop-ups are very annoying. QBO is already a mess.

I agree, every update just makes things worse.  I wish I could go back to the version a couple of years ago. I haven't seen any change I wouldn't rather do without.  My recommendations rating has gone from an 8 to a 3

Same for me as well. They are converting long-term users to no longer recommend. There are options nowadays. Stop Pissing us off!

Again, we just need the ability to opt-out. Feel free to bury it, or even god-forbid require us to contact support, but give us a way to fix your constant barrage of popups so we can get work done!

There aren't any real tech support people at Intuit/Quickbooks. Complaints and suggestions have been ignored forever. If I had another choice I'd switch in a heartbeat.

The latest versions of Microsoft Edge, which I normally would not use), running on Windows 11, and now use ONLY for QBO, seems to be able to block the pop up’s, almost completely . I have experienced 100% less frustration with this program since using Edge. I discovered this purely by accident one day, when I was forced to use my wife’s computer, which had Edge as the only browser.
