J1 Visa%2C my employee has applied%2C but not received his number yet%2C What is the work around prosses

It simply causes me Greif when QuickBooks make a stupid rule to require a SSN,  J1 employees arrive we take them to the SSA office to apply and it takes time to receive the number assigned by the government.  Meanwhile we cant pay them or set them up unless we receive it.   What is the work around and why can not we leave this blank like the past?   Quickbooks is not intouch with reality.

Hello there, Garrett.

Before anything else, know we recognize the urgency of this matter and want to help you get through so you can complete your W2s and e-file them.

Given that you have not yet been assigned a Social Security Number (SSN), you can enter zeros in place of the SSN to be able to set up and pay  your employee.

Furthermore, we're adding these articles to help you ensure your data stays accurate, and prepare for this year's payroll year-end:

If you have any additional questions regarding SSN, please leave a comment below, and we will get back to you promptly.
