Payroll Direct Deposit - Not accepting bank routing number

I am updating an employee's direct deposit bank account.  I have a copy of a voided check and entered the data without errors.  I am getting an error "The routing number is incorrect.  Please enter a valid number"

I have confirmed I have the correct routing number from the institution itself.  This is not a data entry issue.

Thanks for your help.

Payroll Direct Deposit - Not accepting bank routing number

Hello, RGK.

I have a couple of things you can do to fix the incorrect routing number error message in QuickBooks.

This could just be a simple issue on the window fields, so you'll want to refresh the program to fix the error message.

You'll want to close and re-open QuickBooks Desktop to refresh the program. Do this by clicking the File menu, then selecting Close Company. After closing the company file, select Exit from the File menu again.

Re-open QuickBooks, then enter the routing number again.

I'd also recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This ensures all critical patches and fixes are implemented in your current version. Here's how to update it:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Click Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Make sure to also get the latest payroll updates to ensure you won't have any issues managing your taxes, employees and other payroll data.

After entering the updated routing number, do you need help checking your employees' data in QuickBooks?

You can create a payroll summary report to list their current liabilities, taxes and other amounts. This article will guide you through the process: Create a payroll summary report.

Need help processing your payroll or need to manage other employees? Let me know the details and I'll gladly lend a hand again in the future. Looking forward to work with you soon.

Payroll Direct Deposit - Not accepting bank routing number

What's the routing number you're trying to enter?

Payroll Direct Deposit - Not accepting bank routing number

Did you ever resolve this?  I am having the same error with routing number [removed] for Chase Bank.  No one has helped. I've updated everything multiple times.  I've restarted (multiple times).  I've attempted to chat with intuit.  I've attempted a call back with intuit.  I was told I would get a phone call from intuit payroll, but never did.  I've confirmed with Chase Bank that this is the proper routing number and there is no alternate number.  Anyone, please help!

Why it removed the routing number is beyond me... this is not confidential information.  It is zero, seven one, four more zeros, and a thirteen.  Anyone use this routing number successfully?  Chase bank is no fly-by-night bank so I can't believe no one will help me with this issue.  My "enhanced payroll subscription" is supposed to include support.  That's obviously false advertising.

This isn’t the experience we want to leave to you, @lampe1. I’m here to provide troubleshooting steps to get this resolved and so you can continue to run your business.

Data issue is one reason why you encounter an error message. You can utilize the Verify and Rebuild Data tools to fix it. It identifies why the program won’t accept the routing number and help get rid of any problem right away.

Here are the steps to do it:

  1. Choose Window, then Close All.
  2. Go to the File menu and then click Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. Follow the onscreen instruction to back up your data.
  5. When the tool finishes, select OK.
  6. Navigate to the File menu, then click Utilities.
  7. Click Verify Data, then press Rebuild Now once QuickBooks finds an issue with your company file.

Please know that you'll need to log in to your Desktop account using the single-user mode when performing this process.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our support team. Our representatives can check this further and help you find more solutions. Make sure to check our business hours so you can connect with us quickly.

I’ve added this guide to learn more about managing employees’ records in the program: Manage workers and employees. It has everything you need to get your books accurate for payroll.

Also, know that I truly appreciate your effort and patience. Don’t hold back to drop a comment if you have any other questions or concerns besides the routing number. The Community is always here to help. Take care!

This is Intuit trying to save you from yourself, petrified that you'd post a phone number here.

Do you mean 0 7 1 0 0 0 0 1 3?

If so, that does appear to be a valid routing number - at least one that passes the routing number check sum code.

It appears to belong to JP Morgan Chase:

OK, yes, 0 7 1 0 0 0 0 1 3 was the routing number (for JPMorgan Chase Bank) that was giving me the error - and I knew it was the correct, valid number.  Thank you all for your help.  I updated (again) everything I could possibly update... I created a backup, I did the rebuild (issues found:  0) and now I don't know what helped - but I was able to enter the routing number and it was accepted.  Very frustrating that it took this much time, but at least I know the employee information is correct for the next run of payroll.  Thank you all for your help.
