Payroll Liabilites Creating New Account

We’ll have to run some basic troubleshooting to get you back on track running payroll. Let’s check the Accounting Preferences first and make sure you’re using the right account for the deduction pay type.

Before we proceed, may I know the specific error message? Any details you can share ensures a timely solution.

In the meantime, let’s go to the Payroll Settings and review the Accounting Preferences. It only takes a few clicks away to get there.

1. Press the Gear icon at the top and choose Payroll Settings under Your company.
2. This action will open the Preferences window.
3. In the Company and Account section, click the Accounting link to display the Account Preferences page.
4. Navigate to the Other Liability & Asset Accounts section and review the account used for the deduction item.
5. If it’s incorrect, click the drop-down for the payroll item you’re working on and choose the right one.
6. Click OK and set the correct date to let QuickBooks update the transactions.
7. Hit Update and OK to keep the changes.

If the account is correct, open QBO via a private or incognito window and payroll from there. This browsing session doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm if the error is cache-related.

The steps vary depending on the browser you’re using. Here are the shortcut keys to bring up one:

• For Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
• For Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
• For Safari: Command + Shift + N

If you’re able to process seamlessly, remove the cache and cookies of your regular browser. This process is just emptying the cache, so the next time you display a webpage, everything must be downloaded anew. If the error persists, run payroll using another browser.

My accounts are correct and the browser solutions do not work. The issue is that I have everything correct and get this error.

Since you're still getting error messages about the account you're using in the payroll setting. I recommend reaching out to our support team. They have more tools to check your account securely and provide more details about this.

Here's how:

1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner.
2. Type in "Talk to a human", then press Enter.
3. Look for I still need a human and click on it.
4. Click Get help from a human or Contact Support Team.
5. Select between Send a message, Schedule an appointment, or Get a callback.
