Payroll withholding

In the past I have been able to record an employee's voluntary payment of Federal Income Tax.  I no longer see any instructions for doing this.  Does anyone know if this is no longer acceptable?

Hello there, Vickie. I understand that you're facing an issue with recording an employee's voluntary payment of Federal Income Tax. If you were able to record an employee's voluntary payment for federal income tax before, it's possible that the payroll item associated with this was inactive. To check this, you can navigate to the payroll item list under the List tab and remove the X mark by deselecting the Payroll Item is Inactive box.

 

 

Once done, you can set up the payroll item directly from the payroll item list or through the employer's profile. To create a new payroll item, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Go to the Item List page.
  2. Click on the Payroll Item dropdown menu.
  3. Select New from the dropdown menu. 

 

In order to set up a payroll deduction for an employee, you can access the Payroll Center under the Employees tab. From there, select the employee in question and navigate to the Payroll tab. Under this tab, you can add a new item name for the deduction you wish to make. This will enable you to easily manage the employee's payroll deductions.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply.  I see that the necessary accounts are still there.  However, I have been told by a new accountant that this is not an accceptable practice.  I am trying to avoid problems with the IRS and question whether or not he is correct.  Can you address this?
