Quickbooks Desktop Payroll automatic tips offset

Is there any way to automate the reported cash tips offset so that it would equal the reported tips amount?  I hate having to manually key in the tips deduction when it's always the same as the reported tips.

Yes, you're right. If you assign a fixed amount on the employee's profile, it will reflect the same digits the moment you create a paycheck.

At the moment, there isn't an option for automated entry of tips on the paycheck. It's either you leave the tips amount blank and enter it manually, or use a fixed rate.

I got you, @sdonohoo.

I'll share the steps on how you can add the reported cash tips offset item. You'll want to enter the amount from the employee settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees, then select then Employee Center.
  2. Double-click the employee's name to edit. Then, tap the Payroll Info tab.
  3. Under Additions, Deductions and Company Contributions section, add the Reported cash tips offset item and the Amount.
  4. Click OK.

Need more details? Check out this guide: Update or delete employee info.

Additionally, here's a link that covers all tasks you can do when using the payroll feature.

If you still have questions or concerns, please let me know in the comment section below. I'd be glad to answer them for you. Stay safe.

Thank you for the response!  Your suggested solution would only work if the reported tips were the same every pay period, correct?  So in the scenario you screenshotted, if there was any reported tips amount other than $25 it would have to be entered in manually for both the addition and deduction.  What I'm looking for is a method to make the tips deduction entry automatic where it would immediately deduct whatever the amount is that you've entered as reported tips.

Hello,

How do I report cash tips using the hourly wage credit? We pay our servers minimum wage $13. I tried to use the offset,  however my 941 line 5b report is reporting a negative tip amount. What am I doing wrong? Please help!
